Just because they can, doesn't mean they will, how hard is that to comprehend? They did not go over 4000 boss 302s and or 5000 gt500s, no reason to believe they will do more than that. You obviously are clueless about the complexities of the manufacturing and supply chain management involved with specialty products if you really think they will just double production if some exec snaps their fingers
But this guy knows it all, how can you possibly throw facts in his face?

I have accepted an invitation to test drive the GT350 at Sebring Raceway next month. A salesman from a local dealer told me that invitees to these type events are typically offered an allocation. I'm a long time Porsche guy, and am unfamiliar with how these special vehicle allocations are distributed. Does this salesman's statement sound legit? The first local dealer (part of a big corporate chain) I contacted had an R for $20k markup. I told them no deal, and found a small family owned dealer which doesn't do markups. They told me I could buy an R from them at MSRP if I brought them an allocation.
What day in October are you test driving the GT350 at Sebring?

Is this invitation part of the North American GT350 Track Tour?

Allocations for the GT350/GT350R cars are provided by Ford to various Ford dealers in the U.S. and Canada after which time the Ford dealers sell to various interested parties.

The sales person you talked to seemed to be uninformed based on my understanding of the way these cars are being allocated and sold?

We have discussed this for months.....dozens of threads. Quotes from Ford themselves to suppliers of the GT350 parts some of whom work for them on this forum testifying Ford is not asking for more parts. krt22 like myself and many others have been here for awhile reading and discussing those facts, quotes, dealer specific insight on the allocation program, etc. Be humble because yeah chances are he does know more than you. Some still want to deny the facts...but that is your choice I guess to listen or not. You have any further facts or insight to contribute then please bring them forward.

Yes it is the Track Tour, and I'll be there at Sebring Raceway October 13. I've done hundreds of laps at this track, and am excited to see how this car performs. And as to your other point, about SA being uninformed, that seems accurate. Prior to telling me his dealer wanted $20k extra for the R, the guy I talked to yesterday told me that I probably know more about the car than he does. I, the Porsche guy, then proceeded to inform this Ford salesman all about the wonderful Mustang his employer was producing.

Offering test drives to the enthusiasts of this type of vehicle is a fantastic marketing tool as there is cultivation of interest at the level of those who actually test drive and the word of mouth factor which can proliferate exponentially in a short time frame. The "limited production" fist pounders should take note of what is transpiring with this type of promotion. Ford clearly does not need this form of marketing to sell 5,000 units. It is abundantly clear at this point that Ford is out to sell as many of these cars as the public will buy. This is not a surprise as it is their protocol with every other vehicle they offer. It is really time to empty out the Kool Aide pitcher and understand that there will be enough GT350s to go around once the initial surge has subsided.

Quite a few folks already have gone to the west coast wing of this event at MRLS, and none mentioned it coming with a personal allocation at the end.

If they did not do that for existing loyal customers who already own GT500s/Boss 302s, I can't fathom them extending that sort of invitation to a none ford owner:thumbsup:

Good info, thanks. I'll just wait my turn. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my new Spyder which should be delivered next month. 375 hp Carrera S engine, and only 2800 lbs. should be a hoot!

I of course could be wrong, perhaps they were asked to keep the invite private, who knows. I guess it doesn't hurt for you to get a few laps in for free either way!

Nice pickup on the spyder, I'm glad porsche finally took its head out of the sand and started putting the 911 engines in the cayman/boxters. The GT4 is one of the only other cars that peaked my interest like the GT350 did, but I'm a sucker for that FPC v8 aural experience

That would have been the other choice for me...what a great package! Was it an over MSRP deal? I know they are sold out, so just curious.

This is correct. I was at the Laguna event, and it was never tied to an allocation.

Would have been nice, though :-)

No the deal is at MSRP. I ordered it earlier in the spring when it became clear I was out of luck on getting a GT4. I've ordered the car in GT Silver with red leather interior. This is a pic of a similar car seen in Europe.

Only 5,000 GT500s? Really? Just a little FYI my friend, they built 11,000 GT500s in the 1st year alone which was more than double what the original estimates were from the boys at Ford. Ford obviously was up to the task of building more of these "limited production" Shelby vehicles and overcame all the supply chain hurdles you speak of. Lets face it Dude, many of you early adopters are paying a dealer imposed premium and are clinging to the limited production myth as a means of justifying your over expenditures. Spend your money as you will, enjoy your misconceptions, but don't throw bricks at those of us here who know how it always goes. There will be a GT350 for every single willing and financially capable buyer whether ADM payers like it or not.

blah blah blah broken record from you. Please check the production numbers for the 13/14 GT500s and report back. This isn't 2007 anymore

And even though it won't get through your thick skull, this GT350 is far more unique than any GT500 made to date and appeals to a much larger pool of buyers. I agree, give it 6-12 months and they will be easier to get (a model year 17 that is), but the chances of getting them made to your specs AND at MSRP are not great. But go ahead and wait it out, report back in a year when you stroll into your local dealer and order one at sticker

Keep dreaming. Basing this one ONE model year almost TEN years ago means nothing. Hindsight is 20/20.

Ford has already said it was a mistake building that many which is why there were only about 5k per year after that. Ford execs have also said they will produce about the same number as the Bosses which were 4000. I dont know what is so hard to understand about that or ambiguous. They clearly know better then you how many they intend to (or can) make.

I was being sarcastic and poking fun at scungilio, not krt22. :D
