I have accepted an invitation to test drive the GT350 at Sebring Raceway next month. A salesman from a local dealer told me that invitees to these type events are typically offered an allocation. I'm a long time Porsche guy, and am unfamiliar with how these special vehicle allocations are distributed. Does this salesman's statement sound legit? The first local dealer (part of a big corporate chain) I contacted had an R for $20k markup. I told them no deal, and found a small family owned dealer which doesn't do markups. They told me I could buy an R from them at MSRP if I brought them an allocation.

Ummm...gotta say that would be a good one if you could find another dealer willing to give up their allocation for nothing.

Offering test drives to the enthusiasts of this type of vehicle is a fantastic marketing tool as there is cultivation of interest at the level of those who actually test drive and the word of mouth factor which can proliferate exponentially in a short time frame. The "limited production" fist pounders should take note of what is transpiring with this type of promotion. Ford clearly does not need this form of marketing to sell 5,000 units. It is abundantly clear at this point that Ford is out to sell as many of these cars as the public will buy. This is not a surprise as it is their protocol with every other vehicle they offer. It is really time to empty out the Kool Aide pitcher and understand that there will be enough GT350s to go around once the initial surge has subsided.

Allocations are assigned to the dealer, not the customer.

Then please tells us in your infinite wisdom why the dealers are NOT able to get more allocations for 2016 or 2017MY???? My dealer received one for each year. They could have sold at least 5 this year even with ADM but Ford simply said they would not get anymore.

You state many claims but NEVER anything to back it up except history. All you contribute each and every post is this same diatribe. Jumping on every thread you can to beat your dead horse. It is quite annoying. Seriously mods look at just about every single one of this guy's posts!!

Agreed. Complete BS from thin air pretty much.

And OP sounds a bit odd unless Ford withheld a few locations from dealers to give out (say only gave out 4900 and held back 100 for some special promo like this). Otherwise, Ford can't dictate who the dealers sell to or even for how much. I wouldn't put too much stock in what salespeople say. I had to basically tell my dealership back in December how to order their own brand's car and what codes were what options; they knew nothing really and said a lot of flat out wrong stuff about the options and car.

Is it part of Ford's North American Track Tour? If so I thought that invite was for previous derivative owners, now what dealership has an allocation.

From what I understand, most if not all of the 2015 GT350 R's were "awarded" by Ford to certain individuals. The individual then chose the dealer he wanted to have his car shipped to for a MSRP deal. This is much like Ford is doing for the new FGT supercar. You will have to submit an application to Ford to "earn" the opportunity to buy a car at MSRP. Ford is getting sick and tired of the ADM game.

To the OP's point, even though this story sounds familiar, I don't think it's true for a 2016 GT350.

Not sure what it's called, but that sounds right. All I know is that Ford sent this invitation to those of us who belong to the Florida chapter that I belong to of both Porsche Club of America, and Porsche/BMW Owners Club. I know this from hearing from other friends of mine who drive on the track with those clubs.

The 15 R was a special circumstance, only 37 made.
I don't think the 16's are in that system.

This is so simple that it is in your face obvious. I will attempt to explain it to you in very simple terms. FORD CAN ALLOCATE MORE CARS! As many as they can sell. Seriously Dude, how hard is that to comprehend?

Just because they can, doesn't mean they will, how hard is that to comprehend? They did not go over 4000 boss 302s and or 5000 gt500s, no reason to believe they will do more than that. You obviously are clueless about the complexities of the manufacturing and supply chain management involved with specialty products if you really think they will just double production if some exec snaps their fingers
