Does Ford even offer this as an option? I think it would be great to fly in, get a tour of the facility your car was built at, and then step outside to the finished product and drive off after a thorough inspection, handshake, and a bag full of memorabilia. Not to mention it would cut back on delivery costs, and us pacing for 3 weeks waiting for it to be delivered.

No they do not. I wish they did as it would be so cool to see your car come off the assembly line. And take delivery of it then and there. Just like many other car makers do.

Sorry but ya gotta go to Europe for it. But even then you never get a car off the line. They still go through water leak, QC testing before delivery/release to the customer.

You can get a little closer in the US with Porsche delivery at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles (and eventually Atlanta).

You can also take delivery of a Corvette at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green but you pay full delivery/destination charges PLUS a Museum fee (required donation of a grand). Every Vette owner I've talked to who did Museum delivery loved it despite the fee. I should note the fee was &495 for years but demand outstripped the Museums capacity...to lessen demand a bit the fee was raised to $995. But it is going to a good cause so few complain about it.

If they could take pictures of the cars as they pass through various stops in the factory line, and store them based on VIN, such that the consumer could see the build in progress, that would be cool.

Usually with the Corvettes, a plant tour is included also so you can actually watch your car come off the line. When I was there, we didn't get the plant tour as they had shut down the plant tours in preparation for a complete remodel of the facility. I took delivery two days before they shut down the plant. Still, taking delivery at the museum with the little ceremony and memorabilia they gave me and driving away was still well worth the $990 charge.
