Everyday I get in my car and look at my base model 4.3 inch screen and think two things:
-There may nevet be an affordable way to upgrade the head unit
-The area above the directional pad and knobs would be just about a perfect fit for my Nexus 10, or some similarly sized (maybe smaller) tablet.

So, I am curious if anyone here has replaced a factory head unit (not necessarily a Mustang) with a tablet. I've done some searching online, but haven't yet come up with a parts list. Any advice would be great.

If I did it, it would be molded into the dash to look good. I'm just wondering if it's feasible to replace the head unit with a tablet. The audio part is easy, but can you integrate things like the back up camera, etc.

I haven't seen anything that would allow you to swap it out completely. The tablet has limited methods of input. Your backup camera would need to be Bluetooth or WiFi. It is possible to use a small usb hub to get a few more connections. It would require external power. But you can use some of the tablet features. Music and maps will work.

I use my Nexus 10 on my boat for navigational charts. Works just as good as a dedicated GPS.

Care to share any details on how it's installed/configured?

Well, the news from the other dash kit threads is that one is coming by the end of the year. Anything else will be custom and $$$
