Well, if it's supposed to anticipate where the revs "should" drop to for sequential shift, then mine does a lousy job of it. Actually, within a certain rpm range, it's not too bad, but outside of that, it misses the mark more often than not. I did finally adapt to it and my upshifts aren't too bad most of the time but I did have a few moments during my first month of ownership when I regretted getting the manual transmission. It was very frustrating but I'm good with it now. All in all, I would much prefer the throttle follow the movements of the gas peddle like the ol carburated engines with actual throttle cables used to.To more accurately define this term, when we say “Rev Hang” it does not mean that the revs stay right where they were the moment you push the clutch pedal to perform a shift....instead, the revs drop to a CALCULATED rpm which the car expects to be at when the immediate next higher gear is engaged and the clutch let out, assuming little to no drop in MPH if the driver can shift in a timely fashion.
For example: if you’re cruising along in 3rd gear at 3,000 rpm at 50mph (arbitrary values for example only), and you depress the clutch to make an upshift, the revs will NOT stay at 3,000. They will drop to, say, 2,500 rpm to be ready for clutch disengagement in 4th gear, at the same 50mph you started at.
This is a huge problem for me because every day during my commute I skip-shift, moving from first gear directly to third, and then over to fifth. Or also second to fourth to sixth. Heck occasionally first to fourth. Doesn’t matter, the point is....this rev hang “feature” is one of my most hated things about the car. It rev hangs for the next gear every time and it annoys the bejeezus outta me. I’ve been looking for a solution (within a tune most likely) since owning the car.
I’ve heard only one mention, that HP Tuners can remove this “feature”, but its only a rumor. I’d love to figure it out once and for all.
As for the skip shifting thing, I do the same thing you do when I'm in traffic. 1st -3rd-5th. It works very well especially in traffic where you don't have room to ask any more from it anyway but that wasn't what I was referring to in my previous post.
