So i love this car, the only thing that makes me mad about it is Sync. Let me describe my pet peeve to see if anyone else is having this happen. (i have the base model)

So i listen to either bluetooth audio or the usb stick. And at first i was excited because the mustang remembers what you were listening too when you get back in the car. (my 2011 f150 does not, you have to verbally select bluetooth audio or usb EVERY TIME you get in the car)

But every 10th time or so, it just forgets what it was doing. Maybe the phone isnt ready fast enough, or the usb drive is indexing or something. But it just defaults to AM radio, and i have to go through the selection process again. Sometimes it will play AM radio for a few seconds then switch to bluetooth, but usually its just lost and i have to select again.

I cant get it to happen on purpose. I can almost always get it to happen by showing my car to someone i am trying to impress, i start the car and some crazy AM station comes on blaring staticy talk radio.

Do you disconnect the usb stick/phone?

I find that when I remove my ipod he will default back to FM radio even If I plug it back in.

In my 2011, this happens to me every time I get in the car if my last setting was bluetooth audio. My phone doesn't automatically connect to my car -- I have to manually link it every time I get in -- so I'm constantly getting AM blasts until I can connect the Bluetooth link and give it the voice command to switch to Bluetooth audio.

Hopefully they will fix it with a sync update. I hoped the same thing on my 2011 f150, and it was never improved. But if this is the worst problem i have, i cant really complain. I just wish ford would have gotten in bed with google or apple instead of microsoft.

I'm having issues with Sync and USB myself. Most of my listening so far has been from a USB stick, and Sync is prone to randomly crashing and rebooting. Plenty of BSODs. Annoying at any rate. Hard to know, however if this is a problem with the interface layer or with the underlying OS. I don't know if the rumored switch to QNX will help. Maybe if all I did was listen to radio, this issues might not even arise, but they are basically saying that they can be as connected and functional as your desktop computer or your smartphone, and we all know that you have a high bar of reliability to have to reach to play in that arena. So far, Sync would be deemed, at best, a third-tier player in that game.

Ford does need to be paying attention to this. They've received one major black eye as a result of Sync; and if they can't step up to the plate on this, there may be another on the horizon.

I don't say it to be harsh, but with the way social media is, and the way information spreads throughout the internet, companies must respond to their shortcomings quickly. Silence on the Sync issues makes everyone think that nobody is at the wheel. Inclusion of technology in the cabin is a big selling point for Ford these days (and they are a half step behind the Asian manufacturers on this) so getting it right should be high very high priority.

"Sorta works", is not good enough for the current environment.

Just my thoughts.

I agree 100%. I am really surprised at how poor the sync experience is overall. In my ford f150, when it BSOD's, it locks up and i cant play any sync at all. Turning the car off and on doesnt even fix it, i have to turn it off, and wait around 5 minutes for the thing to finally turn itself off, then start it up again. It made using the USB essentially impossible. Cars are not supposed to work this way. No one would tolerate this in their phone or computer either. I just kinda assumed my experience was fairly rare, but the more people i talk too, the more it appears this is the norm, not the exception. I mean, its just the radio, its not hugely important, but i am just surprised at the poor execution when compared to everything else about the car.

What brand usb drive are you using? and do you have a lot of files on it? and lastly, what format are your music files?

We have a special team for In-Vehicle Technology (IVT), Heinoceros and IzVenomous. Although they are present on some of our other social media sites, they haven't joined us on here yet. There are a few options for getting in touch with them.

Please go to Support.Ford.com, and click on “Live Chat” or call them at 800-392-3673 – enter 1 for English, then 3 for SYNC.

My colleagues on the IVT team can be contacted on Facebook and Twitter as well. On Twitter, they use the same handle as me; the Twitter link in my signature should take you to the right place.

My problem with SYNC is when shifting out of reverse. The sync screen goes to the phone home page (not to be confused with e.t. phone home) and the screen is unresponsive. Thank you for the number Rachel. I'll definitely be making a call in the morning.
