To those who said it can't be done, it has. I installed a parrot asteroid tablet, basically it looks like a small navigation unit but it has a small hide away unit that has a built in amp, several usb inputs, line outputs, steering wheel inputs, and line input. It has android os albeit with their skin and a limited market. It handles calls hand free, has Bluetooth and can go online using your phones wifi hot spot or a 4g dongle. The audio output has a spacializer and equalizer. It also has an input for a back up camera.

I have just installed it, along with a set of pioneer component speakers in the front and a set of midbass drivers in the back. The sound is amazing. Nice punchy bass and crisp highs. I took a bunch of pics and will update this thread later this week. I have yet to tackle the steering wheel controls so for now I'm using the add on swc that comes with the unit.

As of right now the only thing the factory head unit and it's cursed sync is doing is displaying the backup camera.

I'm also working on a template to mount my iPad air in front of the base radio to satisfy my large screen lust.

Pricing for the parrot is approx 250. Sw adapter is extra. The name btw is misleading as its small for a tablet and can't be used out of car. It more closely resembles a navigation unit in appearance.

After a few days of use it has connected to my phone via Bluetooth EVERY TIME, which is already more times than sync ever had. The calling works as well and recognizes the names which sync also had trouble with. The sound with the new speakers. ..no comparison. I still have yet to tackle the steering wheel controls and as such am still using the controller that comes with the unit.

Of note is the fact that side loading apps is proving more difficult than i though, but i was able to install amazon market and get some more apps that way.

So far i have cut zero factory cables, and easily throw another set of factory speakers in and go back to stock.

I have more pics of the install process i will post tomorrow.
