My car is 3-4 weeks away so I had a meeting at Think Ford Guildford to discuss PDI issues and upgrades. The impression I got is that they'd prefer I got a Mustang specialist to do the upgrades - fair enough (though that even included changing the rear tyres from Pirellis to MPSS - their antiquated machinery might damage the alloys!).

Anyways, I was also talking about things like extended warranties, service plans, and costs for Ford xVision sensor installation. Plus a trade-in price on my other half's old car. Did I get a good deal on any of this - no. Nada. No discount on anything. Everything is list price or not at all. (And the price offered on the trade-in - £1500 - was £750 less than I could get from webuyanycar).

Now I know that it's a sellers' market with the Mustang in the UK, but not even offering a £50 discount on the price of sensors (that I do know that others have received) seemed a bit arrogant, IMO.

Think Ford Guildford have been great with the whole ordering process, however, - no mistakes, lots of information, lots of updates, etc. But with money - their view seems to be that I should be happy simply to be getting the Mustang - no sweeteners are needed.

So I wondering what others have experienced: any discounts at all? Anything thrown in for free or less than list (from sensors, warranty plans or tracking services to floor mats, mugs or key rings - anything?).

At Think Ford Guildford they give you a car, and that's your lot (of course, you've given them £38k in return).

I trust, however, that any flaws with the car on arrival (from Manders' list) will be given their due care rather than this 'count yourself lucky just to have the car' attitude. (Because I will stir the shit big time otherwise).

To be honest, im kind of with the dealer in some respects... they are a business and have to make money.

People are just used to getting a discount, but its not mandatory!

If you received good service throughout and they deliver the car in an acceptable manner, id take that and be very happy. If webuyanycar have offered £750 more, then snap their hand off, although dont be surprised if they haggle the price when you turn up in person.

Hope that doesnt sound too negative... of course they should value you as a customer and treat you with respect, but I just dont buy in to the fairly typical attitude of 'I must have a discount'.

You should get a keyring and, if you're lucky, a full tank of gas. I managed to qualify for the maximum VIP discount at BMW (which is quite hefty) and a lot of people I work with get the same with Mercedes which I think is an even bigger discount. Neither me or anyone I know who get VIP elsewhere have achieved this at Ford. 2 reasons are A) that Ford and Mustang are essentially a blue collar label, which by definition doesn't reward status within society. And B) The dealers only make about £400 on the sale of a new Mustang, so there isn't much wiggle room.

I got 8% off list here in NL via my Diplomatic discount.... im fairly certain they made almost nothing on the car, but wanted the chance to sell a V8, which otherwise wouldnt come along.

I got £15 of petrol (wow) and they gave me a set of locking wheel nuts because there wasn't a set on the car - did everyone else get theirs with the car ?

The car was well presented although I found a couple of marks but that was soon dealt with by a chap from the workshop, and as I wanted the number plates stuck on and not screwed on, I had to fit them myself - with my own tape/pads ?

It was nice to get the original window sticker.

Seems logical to me that if the car is on a 10 month lead time, why discount anything? I never could understand why with my Golf, they gave me 11% off the price, even though they had a 6 month waiting list for the car.

Been said so many times .. but they're making the most of it financially while they can. All seems well and good but the approach that Ford took with getting the UK Mustang up and running must have lost them further sales for sure. Intentionally or not they've made the most of initial lack of supply and reasonable demand .. but pissed off a lot of people in the process. There's been a heck of a lot of cancelled orders from people who got sick of waiting around a year with little or no information coming through. They have bought elsewhere and most likely alienated from considering the brand into the future .. which seems a bit short sighted from Fords point of view.

No discount, would not entertain any aftermarket parts (even Ford Racing), £20 of petrol, scant regard on info/updates (took a complaint direct to Ford for any action on an update), tried to scam me on my trade in, got that sorted when I said I would be back once I'd sold my car.

All in all, very poor service.

They know you want the car and that there is little possibility of walking away, but if you can affect that months sales, they'll eventually bend (talking my trade in here, £2500 difference from going in to pay the balance to leaving having paid, eventually)

Walked into Mazda last week to buy a car for my Mrs, I'd spec'ed it on the official site, then got a near £4K discount on a £24k car

Still worth the hassle, but came away disappointed, not even a bunch of flowers for my Mrs or a bottle of plonk for me. That'll be the last dealing I'll have with that particular dealership.

All this was after mentioning buying a Focus as well, which I would've done, had I received better treatment
