I keep looking at the Ford Racing / Roush supercharger kits from the states and getting very tempted. Anybody already brought one over and got it fitted?

I did plan to fit one this summer when the car was nicely run in & I was used to it, but as I mentioned on another thread, I think the opportunity to use it over here is going to be very very small.

The 400-odd bhp of the standard car sees you into licence-losing territory extremely quickly, and when you combine that with a loud exhaust (as most of us have/will do), you tend to stand out a little bit.

I think I'll wait until I've had a little go in one, either as a passenger or driver, before making my mind up, although as I'll be using mine for European roadtrips, the fuel economy is a consideration.

I've not been able to find any figures for a SC car; anyone know how much worse they are?

If you're willing to test the law, drag strips, racing days, (or midnight pink slips ) then go for it. If it's just for the sake of saying 'I have more BHP' what's the point? 400 is an absurdly high number already and as Centurion has said, it'll take you to 70 in under 5 seconds, keep your foot down you'll be into the 100s before you know it.

*Yes a few UK members have bought whipples ready for their cars, and GT101 is currently (this week!) fitting one to a customers car.

For truth.

I've had cars with almost 650bhp and to be honest, other than pub bragging rights they mostly just result in increased wear, higher running temps/costs and constant gauge watching whilst you wait for something to go wrong and your engine to grenade itself

If you want the car to genuinely be faster, make it lighter, stop and handle better first and even then, far more importantly in terms of performance increase, hone your own driving skills.

Of course, if you just want be able to mash the throttle and spin the wheels through 6 gears, then by all means lob a monster blower on it :headbang:

I have a sort of unwritten rule that all my cars have to have at least 30% more power than they were designed for

Which is why I stuck a cossie lump in my Capri's

Now that I'm used to it, the 415 bhp doesn't feel like all that much. Yes it's quick, 4.something to 60 quick, but I would like more I think

Fine fine fine, well, for whatever reason it is, super charging any car makes them batsh1t quick, whack a good custom ECU flash/tune on top of that and you've got quite the beast!

I'd like more... 15 seconds to 60 its no fun, it's why i got 230 more horses and a Mustang :headbang: (80bhp Corsa to 310BHP Mustang). Equally, my Mustang will be tuned at some point, just because... Supercharged, don't bet on it, gonna strugle to control ~350BHP let alone bleeding 500

The man speaks the truth, done this with my E46 M3 whilst keeping it road friendly, down to 1350kg, power up with just NA bolt-on's so no further stress on engine components by just allowing it to breathe and flashing the ECU to the CSL maps/firmware (same engines pretty much). The result is my E46 M3 is quicker in a straight line than the E92 V8 M3. :)

Of course handling and braking wise, well everything last longer, less weight equals less wear and more performance.

On the Mustang the intention was to retain 90% of its comfort, reduce weight where possible without effecting comfort/features and add big power to have something opposite of the M3. :D

But the whole Shelby 350 intake system is very tempting, pushing close to 500BHP NA is quite nice. :)

I do like the idea of the shelby 350 intake setup, gains some decent extra power without going the whole forced induction route

You can do a Procharger and limit your boost to 8 psi or even less. That will net you 500+ rwhp which is more than enough for most people. Plus it's been proven to be safe for over a year now and plenty of room to go higher in the future if that's your gig. It also the added benefit of being completely removable for "warranty" issues.

Procharger is what I'm considering in a year or so. Easy enough to go back to completely stock, no cutting etc plus it sounds ace.
Like you say, tried and tested and with low boost it's going to blow the engine.
