Imagining what Steve McQueen's Mustang would've looked like by the end of his San Francisco car chase if it had been a 2021 fastback.

Movies are fantasy. You can't try to apply logic, reason and reality to different possible outcomes.

But to answer the question; a new car would look better than the original car. They're massively more structurally stiff and strong. The original cars, during filming, had to have their structures (particularly the shock mounting points) beefed up. https://www.motortrend.com/news/bullitt/

Another question might be; would it be possible to re-film that chase scene today? Frame for frame? Exactly as was done 63 years ago? Use a new Bullitt and Charger?

That would be something to see.

Comments from the second video I posted above;

"That same green Volkswagen has been driving down that hill for 45 years."

"That Beetle still hasn't made it down the hill yet. That guy has been lost in that neighborhood for the last 46yrs."

"It is so slow that it still going downhill!!!"

"That guy with the VW has saved a lot of money over the years."

"Green Beetle the best!"

Re-film it with a 2019 Bullitt Mustang........and which Charger?

Dodge has got 8,456,192.9027 different versions of each of their cars. An SRT Hell Cat Widebody would be quite a bit faster than the Bullitt, just like the original Charger used in the filming was faster than the de-badged GT used.

Just to add;

I was just building a new Charger to see what they're like. Great googly-moogly but their interiors are gawd-awful. Beyond cheap looking.

ETAII; But you can get beige leather interior, a sun-roof, and a manual in the Challenger Hell Cats.
