Just wanted to add that anyone who uses a stool leg cap should probably make a point of regularly checking it. Obviously they aren't designed for this purpose and I can foresee them breaking apart after a year or so.

I'm personally looking at getting a cap 3d printed in ABS as it should last a long time. maybe stick a rubber gasket in it to ensure a proper seal and then clamp it down.

I was able to remove the tube quite easily from above. Ratchet spanner is your friend.
