sound deadening

What kind of a challenge is it to remove sound deadening? And what kinda of weight savings and increase in noise are we looking at?

Haven't removed it from a 2015 yet but on my Mustang I had to remove the front seats, bottom rear seats, carpet and door sill panels. I was doing a rear seat delete and changing my front seats at the same time along with some other stuff, but it was pretty much a days job from what I remember. I'm not sure of the exact weight but it wasn't really as much as I thought it would be and you do get more interior noise with it out.

If you're going to do other weight reduction mods then it's a good thing to do IMO, but if you're not and your car is a daily driver that probably isn't going to be raced at the track more than a couple of times in its life then you probably won't benefit from it. From my experience weight reduction mods add up over time as you do more of them.

Out of curiosity what do you think the weight of that is compared to dynamat?

Probably not worth it for most people but I'm curious if we could reduce weight and NVH slightly.

Dynamat is heavy stuff. If you replace any factory sound deadening with Dynamat you will be adding weight.

I haven't used much dynamat to know how heavy it is which is why I was curious.

I was thinking the dynamat superlite might be close to the factory weight but I've never pulled out the factory stuff to know either haha.

Never used Dynamat so I really couldn't comment on it. My Mustang only gets driven around 1,000 miles a year on the road and that is either competing in True Street style events that have a 25 mile street drive you must complete with a police escort or going to local cruise-in's/car meets during the summer. The rest of the time its being raced at the track so I don't really need all of the comforts of a daily driver with it like sound deadening.

Your question did remind me of an old episode of Wheeler Dealers where they bought a 1950's truck and put aftermarket sound deadening in it. Here's a link to the episode on YouTube and the sound deadening part is around the 33:40 mark.

I haven't used Dynamat superlite so I'm not sure about the weight on that. Don't get me wrong, Dynamat is a good product. Great for sound, keeping out heat, helps with rattles.
