...and there is a valid link to the person you are taking...
I know the world has gone utterly stupid... but seriously :frusty: ?

Since when, when it's not for commercial or monetary purposes, did it become an insurance requirement that anybody you let into your car has to have a 'valid link' to you, and by who or what criteria is any 'valid link' going to be established  !

(PS - I know the 'valid link' phrase used is a generalisation).

I did wonder how you would stand taking some guy you'd met in a car park two weeks earlier... :)
Wrong guy, grim was the one in the car park, not goose!

Hey, whenever I get married i'll drive my own damn mustang to the wedding, and hopefully, if push comes to shove, I can have a convoy of stangs escot me in, then can have a nice rev battle to cheer me up... right, I'm dreaming again, who says just the woman can have her special day...

Okay so kinda cutting between two issues:
If favour and for free - fine with insurance as it's just normal road use
if paid - need CRB, prove payment, special insurance to cover etc

That was a generic "you"... ;)
Nice save ;)!

"I met him in a car park, we got chatting, he's sound, I'm now taking my >FRIEND< to his wedding in my car" crisis averted, not like insurance would know when u met the bloke lol.

Of course you don't need extra insurance to do someone a favour and drop them anywhere. What utter horse ****

As for proving no money changed hands. It's the other way around. You can prove something happened as there would be ermmmm proof..

If you want to drop him crack on. It's just another excuse to drive the car :-)

She's already mentioned it enough times to me... How she wants a custom ring, wants to pick it out, knows the dress style etc - FYI, I haven't proposed and we don't live together :lol:

I know, it all sounds utterly nuts doesn't it, but I have heard of these questions being raised at certain stops and checks. I think to be fair they are trying to stop unlicensed people in unlicensed cars being paid to take girls etc to a prom, so they can stop and will ask more probing questions rather than accept "its a favour" . 99,9% times it probably is. The rules and regs around vehicle hire is pretty stringent and to be fair it is less so in the wedding side as its not licensed. However there are still hurdles, if you break out a bottle of bubbly in your wedding vehicle provided as part of the package they can ask to see your alcohol serving licence. ............. this is a technicality we have to cover but in the real world I doubt it will ever get tested.
Best move on - we could spend hours on varying red tape!
