So many tires!

Hello everyone

Im sure this question has been here before but it dosent hurt to revive a topic. I have 17 PP GT, so 275 rear 255 front on the lovely p zeros (sarcasm)

Its time to replace these tires, but there is so many options I dont know what to choose. This car is a daily, a good amount of miles are on the highway, and i do around 12-15k miles per year. Light spirited driving few times a week and im on stock power.

I was looking at firehawk indy 500, nitto 555 g2's, and the Michelin all seasons. are any of these good options? i dont want my tires to wear down after 15k miles and I do not need the craziest summer perfomance there is. Also I live in Socal so we are talking 40-45 degrees at its coldest when i leave for work but besides that its almost always above 60 in our frigid winters.

Also, what is the widest tire I can run in the rear with my PP wheels? 285?

I'm in the same boat as you - I live in Charleston, SC, so while it's usually around 40 in the morning during my commute, it's always up to 55-65 during the day. I'm also looking at the Michelin PSS, PS 4, and the Indy 500s. All the reviews I read about the Indy 500s are stellar, and people seem to love them. I've seen them described as 98% of the performance of the PSS, at 60% of the price. I have read that the 555 G2s are good at first, but quickly go to crap. I'm sure they're still better than the stock P Zeros.

I wouldn't go AS on your tires. You live in LA. Why would you want to compromise performance all year when you might see a half dozen cold days a year?

As for the widest, it all depends on the tire. Not all 285s are made the same, so you'd need to look at the specific manufacturer recommendations. I'd also look into sourcing two rear PP wheels so that you can go squared setup, and rotate all four corners.

Yes the indy 500's do seem very popular and the price is so good. Also true, i dont need all seasons, worst case scenario we get heavy rain for a few days but besides that its pretty much dry.

If you want best all around summer tire - P4S. Slightly cheaper but still very good - Conti ECS. Cheap and good - Indy 500. Forget about Nitto. They're shit. All of these will be much better in heavy rain than any all season as long as it is not cold.

Thank you for the reply. the P4s look to be everyone favorite but pricey. You get what you pay for tho!

I think im now between going p4s or going indy 500. How much life do you think i can expect from the indys considering i have 1/8th tread on the rear of my oem pirellis with 25k miles?

My rear OEM Pirellis lasted about 12k miles on the rears, though my fronts are still original (in need of replacing) at 35k miles. I haven't seen a lot of people talk about tire life for the Indy 500s, but I think you could probably estimate 25k, maybe more if you go square and rotate. I have read that the PSS and PS4 tires are good for 30k+.

Hey man thanks for the input. Thats what I think too, they will last a real long time. I put around 12-15k a year. Bought the car in july with 16k miles and now i have just under 25k so i drive a bit more than average id say, However most of those are highway and I dont beat on my car too much, just enough to have fun ;)

Looking at prices on tire rack the indy 500's are such a killer price..60% of the p4s.

60% the cost, and probably 80% of the tire. The MP4S is AMAZing in the wet tho, even sticker than the Conti Sport, but I don't imagine you get all that much need for wet weather performance in LA, so the Indy 500 are probably a safe choice.

Tire rack $193 each. If tire rack has what I want I normally just buy from them because of past experience. There free road hazard coverage is no joke. They sent me a brand new tire when my one tire got a screw in the sidewalk.

Consumer reports put out their newest tire test results. Michelin, Nokian Zline, Conti all did real well. Might want to take a look if you have an account or download the app.
