^^^ I think this would have worked if the car wasn't turned on with the key inside. The car thought business as usual and it's time to go. The above I believe, only applies if the car is off.

Very possible. Kinda stumped to say the least.

I think you are now the 2nd who did post that. I am wondering why - I think page #58 in the manual - it says that sensors looking for a key and if there is a key inside it would unlock all doors?? IMO all doors should be unlocked and not locked with a key inside and the engine running - car parked! I am getting worried now with my wife driving the car on some warm days. She is a "specialist" in locking her or us out!

It shouldn't have locked if the key was in it I would think. Unless he manually locked the doors from the door panel or another key fob.

This. I'm guessing the OP accidentally locked it. The car thought it was just ready to drive.

I could've sworn that the car will still unlock for you when you touch the door handle even if the fob is in the car?

That would be a bad safety feature. Say you are being followed by some character, get into your car, start it and lock the doors. If he came and grabbed the door handle, it would open. :eye bulge:
Not good.

In the OP's situation, he likely got in, and locked it unintentionally. Likely after opening the door to get out, otherwise that door would remain unlocked if it was locked, then opened.

Regardless, thanks for sharing OP. This will likely prevent one of us from making this mistake.

Just one more reason to make a duplicate of the "emergency key blade" and hide it somewhere on the outside of the vehicle ... just as many people (like myself) have done for decades !!

Honestly thought my 6g Mustang purchase was going to be the 1st time I don't need to "hide a key", but this thread has changed my mind.

Having a spare key in your wallet works too unless you locked that in the car or just so happen to not have it with you when you need it. These are reasons I like the hidden key on the car ... it is ALWAYS there.

I hope it wouldn't. Having someone being able to unlock my door while I'm in the car is not appealing. Unless I am in a major accident that is...

I just don't see a good reason to ever take the key out of my pocket. If I need to avoid the honking on exit, I just don't fully close the door (or use the 'proximity' trick). If I am in a situation where I need the door closed and locked, I just deal with the 2 honks (or use the 'proximity' trick).

What's the "proximity trick"?
As for this scenario, I'd likely leave the windows open enough to reach my arms in. The car will still mostly warm up and you could leave the key inside or hold it in your hand as you shut the door.

As you are exiting your running car, place the fob at the top right corner (when facing door from outside) of the window and then shut the door. You should avoid the honks.

Cool… never knew that. Thanks!
I can't take credit for it. Someone else here 'discovered' it. I've only tried it once as I'd rather deal with the honk than take my key out of my pocket.

I like the honks; they remind me that the key's not in the car. Although I'm sort of anal about that; I'm the type who'll double-tap the lock button seven or eight times just to listen for the honks and make sure the car is REALLY locked when I'm walking away from it.
