Asfar as tires go, I dont see neither dunlop nor blizzak have the right sizes of tires that would fit the stock oem wheels. I think going down a size 285 and running a square setup is probably the way to go? In which case only options are sottozeros and michelin pa4.

I have a square setup on 9x19 wheels with Blizzaks that I have used on my GT350 in colder months. Works fine. The GT350 has no problems in the snow when equipped with snow tires. Yes it will rust just like any other car made from metal. However, there is a lot of galvanized metal on it, which will help. I have a crappy POS I drive on bad days. I hate the thing, but if some idiot with crappy tires hits me I don't mind too much.

What tire sizes do you use on the 9" wide wheel? 255?

Installed last winter on oem wheels the Pirelli Winter Sottozero in square sizing of 295 x 35.
Just want to be able to enjoy my car whenever streets do clear up OR to be able to drive it anytime my heart desires during winter. :) I want to know if I'm out enjoying her and a snow blows through during a trip that I'll have no worries about my return home. Perhaps not quite the winter tire of a Blizzak, but Tire Rack does rate the Sottozero very well in all categories and fitment on oem is fine. Good luck sir & enjoy the drive!

So how does it handle in snow with that tire and size? Quite wide for a snow tire:)

This setup felt confidence-inspiring and handled the admittedly lighter snowfalls encountered just fine. True, on the oem wheels this is bit wide for a dedicated snow-buster but I was buying another set of custom forged wheels and to keep down overall costs I decided to install the winter tires on my oem's.

Thanks, thats great to hear. Thats exactly what I am planning to do. I think there is a 285 size that will fit even the rear wheel which is still wide but I am hoping its tolerable.

I just got caught in an unexpected snow storm. OEM MPSS did ... ok. I don't want to say that I'd recommend doing that but drive cautiously and they are fine. However if you have to stop on a hill that's glazed over, you're hooped.

This is what I don't understand.. Why drive something so ugly, when you now deep in your heart this what you want in winter.... Drive with passion.... Don't go from point A to point B because you have to, but because you enjoy it.
Well....just so happens I have one of these out in the garage as well wise guy. :D

And the Impreza allows me to not crap that up with Illinois salt and beet juice as well.

I am older than you, but I am not wise :)

Firstly, the post is not for you. Secondly, it defeats the purpose. If you keep that Audi like a garage queen and drive the ugly Hyundai, or wait. Was it Subaru ? in winter, what's the point ? you have a backup car to the backup car ?

Anyway, all good. Each to its' own. happy motoring!

Actually, I have backups to the backups. Oh yeah, and lots of battery tenders.
