My '18 A10 non-perf-pack does the same thing, athough I'm not exactly sure what RPM mine triggers at. I don't think there's any way to (easily) change it or turn it off

Does the car have an aftermarket tune?

Folks get tuned and the shift point to prevent over revs are set in the tune sometimes. Some tunes allow you to adjust the shift point whenever you want. I take it your car does not have the shift point indicator as an option. If that's the case, a tuner can increase the rpm shift point so you dont flash red until you reach a higher rpm. I think the red flash is set a 1000 below redline because of the average person's perception and reaction time. At a higher shift point, the average person who doesnt shift until the red flash wont finish their shift until after redline.

Just a thought...

Bought the car new, no aftermarket tune.

I understand the 1000 rpm buffer with as quickly as this thing revs, but with the 10A in sport mode, it's living half it's life with the shift light flashing on a back road.

Might be time for a tune....
