I had pretty much determined I was going to go staggered 19x10 front and 19x11 rear. I was going to run 285/35 up front and 305/30 in the rear. LMR didn't have the sales I was expecting, so I opened up my search.

I really like the look of the chrome powder Shelby CS5. The rears are 11 inches but the fronts are 9.5 inches.

Will I still be able to run 285/35 in the front? What would be the track implications? I do a couple of mild track days a year.

Thanks

It will fit safely, just not optimal. That's why I didn't get those wheels, only 9.5 front. Even though I am only running a 275 tire up front. Ended up staying 19". Tire selection for 285/35/19 and 305/35/19 are scarce.

Ok. I bought the wheels from CJ Pony parts and I have them (including lug nuts and TPMS)!
9.5/19 Front, 11/19 Rear.

Now I need to get the tires. I'm going to get the EAGLE F1 SUPERCAR 3 tires from tirerack.
285/35/19 Front
305/30/19 Back

Thoughts?

Won't be able to use them much until spring, but still want to get them mounted and take pictures soon.

You may want to limit it to a 275/35/19 on the front. With just a 9.5" wheel up front it won't support the sidewall fully.

I might try that except the tires I want don’t come in that size. According to the Goodyear specs the 285 should work with the 9.5 inch rim.

hopefully it drives great.

It's the minimum. On the rear no issues at all. However on the front you want that front sidewall supported to keep the steering from being sloppy when pushed.

You can do it, but you shouldn’t. Why? Because every chart that shows tire size vs. wheel size says they are too big. So go ahead and good luck. Just do not bother posting that the front end of your car doesn’t feel right. We told you so.

I wouldn't be so stuck on the GoodYears, there are other better tires.

Hey Bikeman315, thanks for the friendly response.

I'm interested to know if anyone has actually run a 285/35 on a 19x9.5 wheel. And what their subjective experience was. Or in general if they have run a tire that was on the wide end of the allowable wheel specs. I'm guessing that while not optimal, and since I am not serious about racing, it will feel and operate just fine.

I've selected the supercar 3s because they are a good compromise of cost, street performance, and track performance. I understand they can take the heat generated on the track, are relatively durable on the track, and are somewhat civilized on the street. If I go to 275s I will have to select a different tire. My current PS4Ss just were not enough for the track.

Everyone have a merry Christmas!

I decided to go with the Sport Cup 2s in 275/35/19 and 295/35/19.

I finally decided on this size combination for several reasons. I could have gone wider, but for looks I wanted to keep the front and rear diameter as large as possible and still have the front diameter larger than the rears. For performance reasons I didn't want to pinch or stretch the tires too much. This size combo seems to be in a nice sweet spot for my 9.5/11 inch rims. My hope is that this will also keep the balance of the car close to what it is right now, that is, a little under steer.

There are not a lot of choices in this tire size combo. I knew I wanted to go with more grip than the PS4Ss. So I went with the more expensive and shorter lived Sport Cup 2. In my search I did notice a couple of offerings that looked good for the future in the size. The Continental Sport Contact 6 and the Falken 660RT are both listed in this size, but seem to be unavailable for a while. The Falken in particular seems to be at a really good price/performance point. Depending on how long the Sport Cup 2s last and how I like them, I might end up with the Falkens next time.
