2016 GT350 Track Pack On Order
At the Track Tour event, I wanted to drive the "regular" GT350, because just in case it was something that I wanted, it's the one that I could rationalize from a money standpoint. I'll tell you this, I was shocked by the performance of the car. The grip the car generates is phenomenal. It reminded me of the GT-R in that it is not a light car, but that doesn't seem to matter. It does not feel light a heavy car in any way. You can chuck this 3,700lbs car into a corner. The car is forgiving, predictable, and CONFIDENCE INSPIRING <--- important on a race track. The brakes are as good as you need them to be, and they are awesome. The brakes and tires may actually be able to fix "crazy". I had the good fortune to be riding with Gunnar Jeannette, so I also saw what the car could actually do from an actual Pro driver with time in the car. To consider that this was a "stock" setup from a tire standpoint, we were braking later into 7, 10, and 13 much later than I normally see. It's obvious to see that the wide wheels / tires / Michelin compound effect that, but what was even more surprising to me was what happened over things like the curb at 7. Normally that will upset a car and cause it to skip a bit as you're turning-in an trying to get on the gas with traction. The curbs do not seem to effect this car the way they do other cars. The Magneride shocks should be called "Magicride". If you order a GT350 without the Track Pack, you've made a mistake.
Nice review, thanks. The rotors are less than $300 each and are two piece but one unit. They should last a bit longer than on other Mustang rotors due to their heat dissipation properties. This car will not be inexpensive to track but compared to a similar performance Porsche should be cheap. ;)

Where do you see that price?

I've owned a Panoz GTRA, and the rotors were not inexpensive to replace. That's not a huge deal. What really matters is how often you have to replace them. Someone knows the answer, and I didn't get a chance to find an engineer and feed him beer...

That's very interesting... especially looking at the TW rating on the tires. We'll see how long they last. My interest wouldn't be in miles, but in track days.

I see a lot of really cool, and very expensive cars at Chin track days. This one will be a magnet for me and a few other Chin people.

I doubt they pushed it this far but, any speed info from the straight?

I initially heard they were hitting 150mph and find it hard to believe. Any info would be helpful...

This was not done on the Full course. It was the Club course. I was riding with Gunnar Jeannette and we were not hitting 150mph. I don't know how fast we were going, but I've seen 150mph at Sebring. That was in a Ferrari 458 on the back straight. And that was a touch of 150mph before braking into 17. The car has plenty of power but, for me, that's not the story about this Mustang...

According to Mark and one of the instructors, some of the pro drivers were shifting into 5th gear on the straight available to us.

150mph no way.... typically mid 120's to maybe 140'sh mph at Gurney Bend (between turns 6 and 7).

Agree. And in the C7 Z06.. 150-155mph is achievable only on the back (Ulmann) straight with an advanced driver.

I bet you were up there... 130'ish give or take. I also got a fast lap on my 2nd lap and I know I was over 125mph after the bend. I was also able to get 3 point bys (aka pass 3 cars) prior to my pitting in lap. In any case it's accurate to say speeds from 120 to maybe up to 140 can be accomplished on the short course. And the point is this car can move fast! My favorite aspects from the limited time with this car so far is still its handling, grip and braking capability. It defies logic due to its weight. To me that equates to clean, smooth, and fast lap times. Btw, I was in the white R.

Well... I'll try not to sound too much like a negative Nancy here...but...The ball was seriously dropped on the afternoon session today. I hope you guys don't roast me too bad - you're the only ones I can air this to! ;)

First, I can appreciate how much work is must be and this was their last session and their last track. Here's the shortest story I can make out of it:

It rained towards the end of session 2. It rained enough to where they told us that we would get a ride along and would be able to drive if it let up. It did let up but the track was still pretty wet so they went ahead with the ride alongs only. At that point the rain had stopped and my ride along session was starting to get dry (I was in group 3). They basically finished the ride alongs for group 4 (at which point the track was nearly dry). They called the event and even skipped the last session. Instead we all stood around for a bit, they handed out the card holders and we went on our way. The event and schedule had the track until 5 but I was on the road at 4 with sunny a sunny sky above me and bone dry streets.

Again, I appreciate all of their hard work - but someone had the chance to make it or break it and they broke it. I know they can't control the weather but it's not like it rained all day - 30-40 minutes. They could have easily been back on the track. I drove a couple of hours each way and took the day off - many others came from farther.

I enjoyed seeing the cars and everyone was very nice but I could really feel the sensation of them just wanting to go home...which maybe is just the end result of what I'm sure was a really long beating of a road trip. Maybe their enthusiasm to "make it happen" was pretty beat up at this point. Part of me feels like a real a-hole for complaining but hopefully someone will see this and use it as constructive criticism. I loved seeing all of these combos of the car, being able to sit in them and talk to some of the people there.

^^I feel for you Stanglife... I ran in the AM session clear & dry but I waited onsite all afternoon too since my friends were there. One was able to run right before the 30min sprinkles started and one wasn't able to drive at all, just hotlapped. Jim did say "if" they return again to Sebring then the afternoon yellow and blue groups who encountered rain will get an invite.

oh...and this one is totally on me but... One of the main things I wanted to accomplish is locking in my color choice. Right now, it's an AG R with black roof. I saw the AG today and I did like it but all of the colors (except maybe yellow and orange) were awesome (no offense to yellow or orange fans) so I was left no closer to being 100% content with my color choice, lol.

Did the magnetic R inside the building look lighter in color compared to the other magnetic car that was there?
