That really sucks OP, but you seem to have gotten out of it. Best of luck with the next car.

^^Fatguy I don't get why you constantly shill for hybrids and EVs on this forum. It makes me wonder if you even have a mustang. I don't get it. If you have one do why don't you trade it in for a Prius V?

I have one (a 2017 shadow black Mustang V6) and is the most reliable car I have ever owned. The other 2 Mustangs were both 5.0s. Driven Mustangs for over 20 years. I drive all sorts of cars at least four different ones every day. I want to see an EV Mustang that is all. 5.0s have been around for decades and my first was bought 30 years ago.

Time for change, so bring on a performance hybrid and the full EV Mustang. I’ll be 60 next year and V8s are like me also - old and slow. Nobody beats Father Time... :crying:

I should correct that and say old and slowing down. The IC engine is maxed out technologically. While the new EVs are just starting out and already faster. The writing is in the wall...

I should also say I drove nothing but V8s for 34 years and swore I would never drive anything other than V8s. So look at me - it happened and I was a die hard V8 guy who has to apologize for belittling the none V8 Mustang guys over the years. Yet I yearn for a EV Mustang.

If this scares you hard core V8 guys - well that’s reality...

No diagnosis...the fact that it was at the dealer for over 30 days (39 days) and never touched (awaiting teardown) qualified it for a buyback...just turned it in Saturday....it's a done deal
That is just mind boggling to me.....
There has to be more to the story. Not that you are in the loop but why FoMoCo and your dealership let it sit 39 days without any attention. Theories run through my mind but to not turn a wrench seems suspect.

I was never impressed by fox bodies. My 91 trans am even with just a catback lost to only one and it had a pretty big cam and full exhaust on big and littles. My 2004 5 cylinder Colorado beat a full exhaust fox from a roll as well. They were quick but nothing to write home about, especially by today's standards. I mean they were still pretty much a mid 14 second car in stock trim with the occasional "stock" ringer pulling off a very high 13. With some basic mods they woke up pretty well but modded cars aren't arguable since everything goes out the window at that point.

Also, the mustang didn't come out in 1987. It got a mild styling upgrade and a small power bump thanks to a new ecu setup (plus they lost T-tops shortly thereafter :( ) and nothing about the corvette was outgoing by 1987. The c4 lasted until 91 as a traditional SBC (L98) and then got the Lt1 in 92. If a stock fox couldn't beat the L98 in my heavier worse geared trans am, it for sure wasn't beating the same engine in a lighter car with better trans and gearing options.

The mustang is still a value especially if you don't load it up completely as a premium with a whole bunch of stuff you don't need or won't use. I was more so talking about how you have been chiming in like the ticking noises and such are a death nail in the coffin of this engine. There have been some failures because of other issues yes, but not nearly as many as the old 302 had especially at the same power level. So I am not sure why its such a big deal that these engines make weird noises, especially enough for lots of people to initiate buybacks over it..
Like I said many times, my second 5.0 lasted me 18 years and 375,000klms. Drove it every day through 18 years of salt crusted winters and didn’t rust out. The premium interior literally wore like iron and still looked good 18 years later. The engine was never opened up and as a GM guy you should know I never replaced or cleaned the injectors. I know you guys did and they always clogged up again resulting in lost performance. Our injectors had concave tips and that was the trick. A superior car and the 2018 Mustang has a ways to go to beat that car’s history of performance and reliability.

Rant over...
I call bs on 18 years in the salt without rusting out. I’ve owned 8 foxes believe me, they rust.

Nope all true! Rust Check is the answer. I now do it even better. I get the thick underbody stuff in a can that they used to dilute and spray. I just pour it in a pan and take a paint brush and paint it on. Then I use the cans to spray it in the areas I can’t reach. Then I use the original stuff in the doors, hood, truck and inside the lower mouldings. No more drilling. The door has an elongated rubber grommet to get inside the S550 doors. It takes days but the thick stuff will not wash off. Take your fingers and rub the goo inside the rear fenders as the S550’s cheap fabric liner doesn’t seal that area off. Then spray the thin stuff above it. All that tacked on sound deadner probably will exacerbate things in the new cars as you can’t cover them.

The Fox body was in pristine condition and sold to “Mustang’s Alley” years ago to be restored. I have the mileage and year on the insurance and permits to prove it and the vin for window sticker on the 2017 V6. No lies from me...
