Shit, hope not.

I also didn't know the mustang platform was supposed to be much much lighter and be shared with RWD Lincolns, but was also cancelled. Imagine if they went forward with that. Mustang would be even more amazing and Lincoln would be competitive/ a real leader now.

What doesn't make sense to me was this line:

Benchmarked against BMW’s 3 and 5 Series, the S650 Mustang would have offered both conventional and hybrid powertrains. The V8-powered GT would have been joined by downsized turbocharged engines (I4 and V6), and a torque-biased, high-mileage hybrid with limited EV-only driving range.

Notice it says the GT would have been joined by downsized turbocharged engines.

You have to wonder how reliable the info in this article is.

Well, whilst an all new Mustang would have been great, I assume Ford will continue to develop the S550. I'm sure more info will be forthcoming in the years ahead :)

Author seems knowledgeable and in the loop...article seems legitimate.
However, would appreciate Ford media release for confirmation.
Any thoughts/inside from our Ford “insiders” on the forum.

I’ve always believed that Hackett was an unsettling and inappropriate choice for CEO.
The Mustang may not fit into his vision for Ford at all.
Welcome to the new Ford.
This blows.

I like to disassemble things.
So 10,000 engineering jobs cut globally? Can't be US only.

Well before I take a sky is falling attitude. I'll wait til I read this from a more reliable source. I'm old enough to remember the fox platform with its 14 year run. And how they almost switched the Mustang to front drive in 94.

Ecoboost plus hybrid is/was part of the future of the Mustang.
I could see downsized EB 4 and 6 cylinder engines being offered in the S650.
The S650 was supposed to built off of the D6R modular capable of supporting several RWD/FWD/AWD vehicles.

It's not just ford, sounds like Subaru is killing the WRX to. I'm still not old enough for a vette and I can't grow a mullet so the camaro is out of question to. I guess I'll have to hold on to the stang!
