I'm not saying the S197 is better in (insert category here), I'm saying the S550 has flaws just like every other car. One of those flaws is how heavy the darn thing is. Nova was talking about a Walrus, he was right. It's definitely an improvement in the areas that you mentioned, but that's no thanks to the heaviness. How can they improve this car further without some type of weight reduction. Upping the horsepower eventually will be a game of diminishing returns.

Agreed, though the curb weights are often at odds with what people weigh in. I am likely finally getting mine weighed tonight (w/ half a tank of gas). A friend of mine with a base GT PP + Whipple weighed in at 3790 on corner weight scales. No light-weighting. If similar trends hold true, I'd expect my car to be more like 3630-3650. Certainly quite heavy still, but not as bad as it seems sometimes.

I've heard close to 4000 pounds for some cars on here. That is just crazy to hear. Maybe that's for a fully optioned car. I bet the premium cars add a few hundred pounds extra. I'm curious to see what the lightest S550 GT is compared to the heaviest. The real winners are the people with no options.

That would have to be with driver, or a fully-optioned premium car with a blower and a full tank.

I truly miss my 92 Turbo Notch. It was a blast to drive. Way more "fun" to drive than a blown S550. I would not want to drive one every day though....... The quality of everything is light years better on an S550. I think the refinement of the newer cars actually takes away from the "enjoyment factor" of the earlier Mustangs.

You can just break all the traffic laws and a new Mustang will be plenty exciting - until you go to jail.

Or one simple mod is either put skinnies on all four corners or over inflate your tires significantly. Then you can have difficulty controlling the car even at the speed limit.

Complaining about a car that is fast, controllable and comfortable all at the same time.

I think the GT350 is going to be a close as you get to a "connected/raw" feel to the car, but many don't like the low end torque as the car really only wakes up on the track....

So I have now owned two S550 mustangs, a 2015 gtpp base and now a 2018 gt 10r80. After driving these cars every day for the past 3 years now I must say they are great cars with a lot of power and performance and great handling compared to other gen mustangs but I find myself having more fun/better time driving in other mustangs I have owned. I have had a 1990 lx hatch 5.0, a 1996 mystic cobra and a 2004 mach 1 in comp orange. Althoug all three of those stangs are no where close performance wise to the S550 platform, in my opinion they were just more of a blast to drive. They had more of a muscle car/ raw feeling that the S550 lacks and they actually felt like a proper mustang. Dont get me wrong, I love my S550 but the other gen mustangs I have owned are just more fun and exciting to drive and they actually feel like proper muscle cars. Anyone else feel this way or am I crazy? Lol. Maybe I just need a whipple.

Agreed. Two Fox body 5.0s and whenever I praise them I get nothing but grief. These Mustangs today are supposed to be fun cars but all the fun is taken out of it. A program to run at the drag strip? Where is the fun there? These cars are made for lesser drivers of lesser ability and no reason for them to get better. Throttle response was better because it was a wire. The Fox bodies had more go than stop but this made them feel faster... Those cars had handling defects due to design that gave them character. When I learned successfully how to pull that car out of a spin I celebrated with a pizza.

Get rid of abs and traction control and learn to drive. The current Mustangs are too expensive due to all the nannies and superfluous creature comforts. Blind spot assist and crap like that are for people unaware of their surroundings and want to keep it that way. My first 5.0 had vinyl seats. No a/c and no power windows or locks. No options at all and no radio either. I loved that car! Most of you will never understand about driving that raw. I feel sorry for you. Ford wants you to think you become a better driver by paying them more money. I know better. Learn to drive with everything turned off. For some reason mentioning the obvious can get you in trouble around here, but I digress

Looks are subjective, some think the S197(2013-2014) looks better, some say the S550 looks better. Definitely more rear headroom in the S197 along with headrests.

I like both cars, this isn't a bash post, but let's be real... Nothing this heavy is like riding on rails. Definitely an improvement with the IRS and 2018+ is even more of an improvement.

Id tell anyone thats lost a drag race to one. To learn to drive. I ran the exact same time in a 2011gt as I did in the 15. Both stock.

The raw feel is easy to achieve with some light modding. Ford understands that FAR more people want a refined, fast and comfortable Mustang than a raw, visceral Mustang. To them they say "here's a GT350" or to a lesser extent PP2, or "here mod your car with all these performance parts".

Here’s an idea! When I bought the V6 there was no base GT in Canada so you had to spend 18-23 grand more for 2 extra cylinders. What Ford should have done was kept the V8 for all models but cut back on the creature comforts. Oh wait! Today’s kids can’t live like that. My bad as I thought we were drivers first. My bad...

The funny thing is that keeping the V8 in all models but cutting out creature comforts means that the cheapest Mustang is also the fastest cause it’s lighter. Pay less and get a faster car? What an idea! But Ford won’t go for that. Pity...
