Ive had pretty much the opposite reaction. Yesterday at family's house, no one looked or even commented, except two, that said, "you actually bought a....mustang??" and "I liked your old car better."
...
I've been getting in heated arguments with my family and family's friends about my choice to buy a Mustang. They're all driving AMGs and older BMWs. Every time I show them pictures or talk specs, they just keep saying "but it's a FORD! Why are you trading the Bimmer in for a ratty Mustang?" Drives me crazy.
...

and to think, It was thanksgiving.
I've seen more cheer in a grave yard.

Yeah, the vocal crowd seems to be the owners from the new-retro group (S197s, 5G Camaros, Challengers). And yet I see nothing but praise from owners of cars like the New Edge SN-95s.

yep, the S197's are the worst, but hey! I get it.
They no longer have the newest mustang. I'm sure each Gen has the same exp.
one day the s550 will be the new SN-95, its just the way it is.

Unless "heated arguments" was hyperbole, why even waste the energy? Your dollars, your choice. If they want to see you in an amg or BMW then perhaps they should fund it.

Heated arguments being differences that never resolved. No fighting or bickering is involved, just my family and their friends don't see a need for cars like the Mustang. It's hardly something that creates a grudge match, they just don't see why I want one. I let it go. :)

As a former owner of a 2012 Mustang and now a proud owner of a 2015 GT, people that hate on it are crazy and living life wrong.
I'm an S197 owner, and I'm definitely pro-S550. I've been in a cocoon regarding the new car. I've only read the stuff here, on Camaro5, and the various print and online reviews. A lot of "hate" from the 11-14 owners is kind of surprising. The '05 was a retro-cool knockout when it first arrived, and Ford squeezed all they could out of that model. The S550 is a needed and welcome change.

I'm not surprised, and it is a generalization. It's just what I see online.

Same thing happened when sn95 came out. Fox fanbois hated it. When new edge came out, sn95 fanbois hated it. When s197 came out, new edge fanbois hated it. When 10 refresh happened, s197 fanbois hated it. It's happens every change. Some people just don't like change even when it's needed.

I have never listened to anyone else when it comes to buying cars. Months and Months before the s197 was released I obsessed and drooled over it before finally heading to the dealership in April of 05. I bought an 05 Mustang Black GT Premium Convertible with Red Interior. Reactions were mixed but my nephews called it the Batmobile and wanted rides daily. Ultimate compliment in my book and now my oldest nephew is 16 years old and drooling over the new Mustang. Mission accomplished. My favorite part about driving a Mustang is when driving beside another Mustang lover you give each other the look over and the nod. I personally haven't seen many mustangs over the year that I am not a fan of. They all have their own individual merits in my opinion.

I had my wife's 88 year old uncle and his 64 year old son over for Thanksgiving dinner and they both drooled over my new mustang. When I offered to take the son for a ride, the father volunteered to ride in back. I would not have believed that a man his size (probably 5' 10") could fit back there, let alone a man his age climb in and out of that back seat. The son commented several times that this car was making him rethink his Lexus, and the father was very impressed with the composed ride and level of noise. Like the OP said, it gave me and the in-laws an area of common interest to get the conversation started, and got them to rethink their opinion of Mustangs.

gave 3 test drives that evening haha everyone else at thanksgiving dinner mentioned it at least once each, on their own.

the car's best party favor? Pony projection lamps. Just as im thinking they are kinda cheesy everyone who has ever seen them has gone nuts. Its so amusing to watch, one would think it just handed them a $100 bill with the reactions ive gotten. OMG HOW DID IT DO THAT pointing and whoa-ing for an hour haha. We're not talking children here, full grown adults.

You need to update your profile. You no longer drive an E92. ;)

They don't understand the Mustang any more than I understand paying such a premium for a car that depreciates so rapidly and is so expensive to maintain and customize.

But I suppose that's why there are Fords and BMWs, because everyone has different tastes.

Yes, there are plenty of 11-14 "fanbois" who don't like it. I suspect many are jealous of just buying a car and a new one comes out with many many improvements.
This is my theory as well and is the only logical explanation
Yikes! This is a very head-in-the-sand perspective. Most S197 owners I've spoken with have been quite capable of articulating the reasons they are not fond of the S550, and not once have I heard a reason involving jealousy. In fact, the reasons typically involve a dislike of certain styling elements, such as with the Fusion-esque headlights or some of the cheesy rear end components. Chalking up another's dislike for the vehicle you drive to mere jealousy screams of insecurity - I can assure you there are many more logical explanations, many of which can be easily found and read about on most other Mustang forums.

I'm a 14 GT owner that also likes the new 15 but I'm not about to trade in a car that I've only had a little over a year for the new kid on the block. It's also not smart financially IMHO. A few years down the road I may decide to get a new one but I'm still enjoying what I have.
