I took the rear wheels of my Mach 1 today and was confronted with rather a rusty looking wheel hub

I've done about 4500KMs ( 2800 Miles ), had car for nearly a year, never driven in rain.

I used a wire brush and steel wool and got most of the rust off.

Wondering if others have seen this ?

There are other parts in the rear wheel wells that also look bit rust covered

I don't live in USA, so my Mach 1 was sitting at Ford factory for a few months, before being shipped to my country.

I'll be showing this to my Ford dealer at next service.

Wondering if I should push for replacement parts for the ones with rust.

All of that is completely normal. My rotors look the same and they’ve never once been in the rain. That type of metal with any moisture in the air at all and it will show surface rust.

Same as TrackMustang with mine. I've had it 14 months and have nearly 15K miles, including thru rain and snow.

Why do so many think the dealer (Ford) is responsible for normal wear. Step up to the plate and do something about it on your own.

If it bothers you, get a Rust encapsulator, don't even remove the rust, paint over it.

Example

This stuff works, here is a before and after.

The truck was completed 10 years ago, the encapsulator locks and seals the rust.

I would suggest using a brush-on application. A paint bomb will be less controllable because of the overspray.

There are other rust encapsulators, to be found, Por 15.

Not sure if others are offered in colors, as the Eastwood one is/

I noticed the rust build up on my wheel base when my detailer was putting ceramic on the wheels and asked him about it since my car was like 4 months old and hardly driven. He said that it was pretty normal on any car (even on much more expensive ones) and no matter what do, it will reappear right away.

My guess was that it was some kind of an electrochemical or thermal (inducing water dew) reaction between the two metals.

Replacement parts 😂😂😂

Coat the NON braking components with Lanogaurd. Everything else is normal. Where the wheel mounts to the disc there’s a gap water can sneak in behind.

Use a small amount of copper grease here. It will also prevent the wheel from sticking to the disc in the event of a tyre change or whatever reason your taking the wheel off.

Cheers
