Hey

After reading and knowing about the ecoboost requiring 93 or higher for peak power. My question is-do we have anything that suggests that the ecoboost stock tune is dangerously conservative with running anything lower than 93 (knock or detonation)? While I was looking into getting an STI I knew about Subaru's tuning and how those motors are failing because of the tune/timing/detonation & knock. One of the ways to try to prevent ringland is sticking with the highest fuel (93 or 97) to avoid any knock or detonation.

Do we have to worry about the same thing?

Cheers

The ecoboost can run on 87-93 just fine. You just will experience some power loss with lower octane fuel.

There is no danger in running 87 octane. When we found out the EB made less power on 87 a ford engineer said it can run 87 all day. You just won't get peak power. The code in the ECU is written to change timing etc based on the octane of the fuel.

Thought so. I knew ford wouldn't allow something like that to plague their product. Im very impressed so far with how stout this little motor is turning out to be...especially now that ford is fully supporting aftermarket tuning with their own Ford Racing Tune.

When looking back at the STI, its actually unbelievable that subaru would allow that issue to continue without adressing it.

Additionally, dealerships around my area are filling up the ecovoost with 87.

Thanks for the clarification.
