Correct me if I'm wrong but if that plate is actually LG55 OGG then it IS date-related, although obviously will still be able to go on your Mustang as the plate is older than the car.

I think if there are 2 letters before 2 numbers then it's in the 'new' date format and therefore will affect which cars it can be attached to.

Buying it direct from the DVLA does not automatically make it 'personalised' and exempt from that.
Does not affect which car it goes on, and if it is not personalised why did it cost me a few pennies to buy?
the year plate now for a 2016 car is
16
a 55 plate is for the year
is 07
was sent a list of plates by someone i know on the Mustang Club

As I said, the plate, if it is LG55 OGG, can only be fitted to a car first registered on or after September '05. The fact you paid X amount for it makes no difference to that.

The DVLA issue numbers as a matter of course and will sell certain combinations as they can represent certain things to certain people.

As it's going on a brand new car it's fine, but you couldn't fit it to a car made/registered before September '05.

Yes you could get pulled for the misspacing and IF that happens and you get pulled again for it then you could potentially lose it and you won't get your money back for it.

The new plate style started in 2001 after the old "Y" reg.
The first two letters are a location designation - all Scottish cars start with S, eg SM?
Then there are two numbers. The first designates either a March or September registration. For 2001 to 2009 the March reg was 0 and September was 5. In 2010 this became 1 for March and 6 for September. In 2020 it'll be 2 for March and 7 for September.
The second number is simply the year in the decade, ie 1 for 2001 and 2011, 6 for 2006 and 2016.
The last three letters are random...ish.
So for example a September 2003 new reg might be SG53 FGH. A March 2014 reg might be PH14 TRF...

These plates are date sensitive and you can't put a plate on a vehicle that makes it appear newer than it is. When you buy from the DVLA you're effectively paying for the privilege of getting to choose. Its a bit of a rip off as in the US you can pick any available plate for a relatively nominal amount.

Simples

I believe in the US you have to pay the nominal amount every year to keep the plate.

It isn't just the "new format" of XXNNYYY that are "date sensitive" - all the plates with a date identifer must follow this rule, so since the early 60's when they were XXXNNNY where Y was the year indicator which when it ran out was switched to out the year first - YNNNXXX. But of course, the rule simply means you can't put a "newer" date plate onto an older car.

I still remember my first car was PUK158F, a 1967 Morris Minor...

Bear in mind the current system runs out in 2150, so someone needs to work out a new system by then...

I went for a dateless one in the end. My car's just arrived in the UK apparently, so would have been much too early to use a 66 plate.

Another man going from VTEC to V8 I see. Quite the change of power delivery, but I was surprised on the test drive to see how high the GT revs. Didn't stop me running into the limiter  (twice!). Anyway, off-topic...

Went for ST66 ANG....

Slight gamble that the car wont be ready and available before Sept, but based on most people's experience I think it's a safe bet that my car wont be here until very close to that time...

Anybody else treat themselves this morning....?

Hi everyone,

Newbie here without a Mustang (yet), but thanks to this thread I secured myself MU66 CLE.

My plan is to order in the next couple of months, with a view to taking delivery after 1 April next year, after the annual road tax for newly registered cars drops to £140. Apprently the official lead time Ford are currently quoting is 7 months.
