Roush vs steeda axle back

Ok so it's time to wake up the exhaust on my GT. it's a daily driver so I'm looking for a nice throaty mustang growl and no drone. Did a lot of research looking through the forums but I'm looking for opinions from people who own one or have heard both in person. I've got some Christmas bonus money burning a hole in my pocket!

I went through the same research, got to the same place and picked Steeda. I didn't get to hear either of them in person before I bought. My conclusion is the the Roush is a bit louder and way raspier.

I've only had the Steeda on for a couple of days, but I'm really happy with it. Tone is nice and deep. Loud on cold start and when you're on it. Really quiet cruising. I do get a slight bit of drone lugging around 1500 RPM, but really have to try to make it happen.

I went with Roush Axle Backs and Ford Racing X-Pipe.... its most def loud when you get on it. Then again, I havent heard steeda. If you are looking for a good growl, and slightly loud then i would recommend Roush...

I went with the Steeda axle back.

Great deep rumble at idle, and throaty roar when on the throttle. Zero rasp. Very little drone, as previously mentioned if you really hang at 1500rpm you will get a little bit of drone, but with a 5 liter V8 under the hood that will always be the case at low rpm.

Roush all the way! My bud just put a Steeda on his 15 and both cars side by side he wishes he would have gone the other direction. The Roush axle back by itself is well known for zero drone.

Use caution when comparing sound among exhaust videos

Awesome I was hoping someone heard both side by side. Both sound great in the videos but so hard to judge vs real life. The steeda sounded a little deeper but almost quieter then stock during light acceleration in the one vid.

Speaking as an acoustic engineer only, I would like to point out that there is one thing that makes judging exhaust system sound from videos difficult. And that is the recording and microphone quality that varies widely among phones and other recorders.

Therefore, I remain skeptical whenever I read anyone claiming that Brand X has a "deeper tone" than Brand Y. :tsk:
It is very likely that Brand X was simply recorded on a microphone/electronics that has a more extended bass response.

This also holds true for headphone/earbud quality, and it holds true for claims of the upper register sounds (e.g. "raspy).

The very best way to compare two systems from videos is whenever you find a single video that uses a constant recording technique: Single phone, same distance from car/exhaust, etc, etc.

Obviously, for this reason it is also impossible to compare relative loudness between systems.

Having said all this, I still want to express our appreciation to all those that take the time to record and post video/sound clips of their exhausts! :clap2:

I also have a daily driver, I went with Roush and am VERY happy with it. Loud when you hit the throttle but pretty quiet at cruising speeds. Noticeably deeper rumble than stock at idle. That being said I don't think Steeda offered an axleback when I bought my Roush. They do make good products though so I'm sure you will be happy whichever direction you choose. Good luck deciding.........

On a scale of 1 to 5 ...

1 = Stock system
5 = OMG, did you remove your entire exhaust system and then just quit?!​

... what number would you rate the Roush AB only system?

Remove the resonator and add an x pipe and you are getting into the 4+ category. Although this is based on those highly variable videos you mentioned

In the end I was looking for something a little more moderate and daily driving friendly, not wake up the neighbors at idle loud. Other brands may have sounded just as good but I have 10,000 miles on the Roush AB's and am very happy with them.

I'd have to say the Roush axle back would be a 4, a perfect sound for me. I think if I removed the resonator and put in an H pipe it would be to loud for my taste. I still may do that down the line when I'm used to the sound of just the Roush axle back but as of now it's perfect where it's at.

I spend so much time with my DD car below 3000, that I am now thinking that a scale rating of 3 might be just fine for cruising on the highway. A 4 would be too much, I'm pretty sure.

So many threads of guys tinkering again and again once they remove the resonator.

Corsa Sport CB is probably the best solution for me, but at 3x the price of Roush AB. Cut, swap, done.
