Trying to install my Roush Side Scoops but I can't get these things to line up to the template... when I do get them to line up, the inner plastic honeycomb area doesn't sit flush with the body of the car. Is this normal?

Decided to wait and hear from you guys before installing since I don't want them flying off on the road due to improper bonding.

Thanks.

I attached an image to help describe my issue. The red circled areas are where things aren't aligning to the template correctly, and the blue circled areas are where there's a gap between the scoop and the body.

Mine didn't line up with the template either. I put them where the honeycomb would sit tight to body. Still not 100% tight to body, but have stayed on.

Well, I put them on. Decided to say screw it, and just stuck everything down as close to the template guidelines as possible.

After pushing the tape into the panel of the car, it pulled everything in pretty tight. It's not 100% flush, there's a little play, but I'm assuming it's normal. I have a huge irrational fear of 3m tape haha. A lot of my friends have had parts fly off on them, and I don't want to fall into that category.

How long have you had them on now? Has any of the tape lifted at all?

I installed mine in March of 2016.. and They are not going anywhere. They sit 90% flush, with maybe 1.5-2 inches of the vertical honeycomb line sitting maybe a millimeter high. As long as the tape underneath forms a bond, no amount of wind can rip them off.

Also for what its worth 3M tape sticks to bodywork way better than something like quarter window scoops sticking to glass. I retype my cervinis quarter scoops every 6 months or so...

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm really hoping these things stay on!

As far as the Cervini's goes, I installed those today as well. Couple of problem spots where the tape seems to be having a hard time sticking, but I'd say they're golden for the most part.

How do you take them off? Fishing line and heat?

I think the problem is you didn't move them forward enough. My understanding was you were supposed to align the top and bottom tips overlapping the entire dotted area of the template, there's no tape there on the tips. I did it that way and it set flush against the body. I had those before I got my Cervini's Stalker scoops. #1 rule with 2-sided tape is you don't want the tape to be pulling the piece or having to work. When your car is left out in the hot sun, that's a recipe for disaster.

Oh great! I am installing the scoops today.
I have both the side scoops and the quarter window louvers. I am really concerned by the 3M tape and the heat here in Florida.

Use VHB 4950 3M double sided foam tape for glass applications.
