Thinking about pulling the trigger on these, just had some questions for anybody who currently has them on their car..

Is the drilling really required? I've heard the majority of people say that it isn't, so I'd rather not if possible. Do the clips hold it in firmly enough?

Also, does anybody have experience with buying these on Amazon? The prime shipping sounds super appealing, but I feel like I'd get more peace of mind with american muscle or something, even if their shipping takes 5+ days to California.

I have 2 sets, 1 painted 1 raw. Never drilled any holes. The first set fits perfect, the second, painted set fit a little loose. Kind of hit or miss. I've been running the unpainted set for over a year with no problems.

Mine were a little loose without using the screws, so I drilled. Wasn't bad.
I second this. Seemed too loose without the screws. Drilling wasn't bad at all. I ended up touching up the bare metal holes and letting them fully cure before installing the screws. Probably not necessary but didn't take much extra time.

Did you use touch up paint, or a rust inhibitor?

I just used Ford's touch up paint kit, but I like your idea also. I'm not sure how effective the touch up kit really was, because the screw threads bite into the metal when you install them. I even considered running a small bead of caulk around the screw head to seal things up, but it seemed like overkill at the time.

It's a really easy install. I put mine on maybe 2 months ago, and I might pull them off in another couple months just to inspect for any signs of corrosion. Not because of issues but simply due to curiosity.

Yeah, I would doubt that there would really be any major corrosion, considering the holes are so small, and I don't see how that much water could get down there.

Either way, I'll do a dry fit, and if they're not snug, I'll go ahead and drill the holes to be safe.

Just an FYI!!! Depending on where you get your instructions, you will find two different hole sizes called out! (at least as of 3/19/17) I got my Roush extractors from AM and the instructions from AM's site say to drill 1/8”. I got my instructions from Roush's site and those say to drill 1/4" diameter holes. My kit called for washers that should have worked with the 1/4" holes but were not included… AM is taking care of it and they are in the mail.
Mine are loose without the screws. I think double sided tape would work as well.
I was told that the Roush instructions are the most current. Maybe the oversized hole works better with the way we have to print out the templates and line them up…

That sounds like a good approach.

Come to think of it, I did have one other minor issue that I addressed: the small bit of 3M VHB-looking tape included on the leading edge of each extractor was insufficient to keep the edges down. I ended up adding an extra piece to each and lightly warming it with a heat gun just before installing and it seemed to keep things stuck better. Just my experience, not sure if anyone else has had this issue.

Very interesting, this must have been a recent change. Now I'm wondering if they're addressing corrosion issues due to the smaller screws biting into the material and rendering any touch up paint useless. I printed out the Roush instructions from their site ~2 months ago and they call out the 1/8" hole. I just checked back, and I now see the change that you describe. Sounds like I need to contact Roush and get those washers. Or just pick up my own for $0.10.

Good info!

Yeah it's really an easy fix with some oversized washers... but some ppl may take it harder than others.

I ordered mine through CULTRAG Performance via Amazon (prime shipping was too appealing), who are an authorized roush dealer now, or so they claimed on their facebook page.

Regardless, I'll just print the template from the Roush site.

Thanks for the heads up!! That's going to save some headache.

Jmart ConqSoft - I installed the scoops the other day, and they seem loose like you guys were talking about. One of the bottom clips isn't making full contact under the hood on the passenger side, and the whole extractor seems off-center, leaving a few raised parts of the plastic... do you think the screws would re-align everything, or did I get a bunk set?

Not sure about the alignment issue, maybe a photo would help to clarify. The screws absolutely helped to clamp down any slightly raised areas.

Another thing to check is the hole alignment in the extractor itself. There are two holes, one on top of the other and the shitty screws supplied do not have a pointed end. Knowing this going in might save you some frustration. Once the screws are in place the extractors seem tight, however, the screws never really seemed to fully tighten.
