I just installed my roush heat extractors today and I'm really happy with the way they turned out. I'm curious to know if these are in fact functional at all and if they are do they extract heat better than then stock ones. The vent on the stock extractor looks to be bigger and less restrictive than the roush ones. Maybe they're designed better or maybe they're strictly for looks? Anyone?

Well after driving today my car stayed at about 200-205 degrees while my air intake temp was about 65 degrees. So i def dont notice any increased cooling properties. In fact i may be running at tad warmer in the engine bay. Im thinking of cutting the middle of the backing plate and cutting a portion of the hood to have a bigger opening to extract more air

I watched a video on the wind tunnel testing of the S550 and they indicated the vents were for reduction of lift on the front end. It relieves some of the upward pressure under the hood. Don't think it was meant for cooling.

It's for both. but remember eurostangs don't even have the vents. neither does eb or v6.

more for looks than anything.

In "the big fat cooling thread" on this site, some guys mentioned the Roush's doing nothing, or weren't as good as the stock. A few guys cut out an area on the underside of the extractor, and cut out some of the hood. They reported better results with doing that.

Had them on my GT took them off once I got the stock ones painted black.
IMO stock painted black looks better than the roush plastic look

Took the roush extractors to 3 diff body shops to see about painting them all three could not guarantee the paint would stick so I gave up

Anyone wants them for half the cost let me know

Stock vents have 2.7x the vent area than Roush. Yeah, I did the math.
Not only that, but the puddle tray on the bottom of the Roush vent just prevents airflow all the more.
If you like barely functional, matt black plastic vents, then the Roush are for you.

I am starting to wonder if 'Roush' is German for 'Rice'.

If I was you, I'd get the 2015 extractors, those definitely have a larger opening...and you get to conserve the stock look.

They're purely for looks unless you do some cutting to shear off the bottom part of the extractor, as the given ventilation opening on the Roush vent is quite small. It matters little though, as the OEM hood vents do very little "heat extraction" in the first place--the Euro Stangs don't even have hood vents. Anyway I prefer the aggressive look of the Roush vents over the plain OEM ones. I did paint them however, as I didn't like the unpainted plastic look.

I agree. They're more for looks than function. I had mine painted magnetic gray then decided to vinyl wrap them for a more aggressive look.

They look like carbon fiber in that pic. Pretty cool on Magnetic.
