Normal, or not? :(

Exhaust is 6m and 9k miles old. Im over in the EU, so not many people to ask here, but am hoping US based owners might have more experience.....

Anyone from Roush on these boards?

Where did you buy these? I didn't think Roush sold black tips with the axle back. It looks like someone painted them.

I think they are polished just doesn't look like they get cleaned often, it also looks as though possibly a lot of sand etc is getting stuck in there and not cleaned off. Most don't deal with sand being in the exhaust tips on a regular basis which could contribute to the problems you're having. Might not be sand but looks that way in the pic.

It could be road debri that's rusting like rail dust or something.
Notice it's only rusting at the bottom? That's where all the iron dust would collect.
I would get a metal polish and polish it. Just normal maintenance if you want it to look good.
Roush uses T304 which will not rust.

If you don't have the Stainless Steel version or if you have mild steel in your exhaust somewhere then yes expect to see more of this......

Car looks like it's been neglected.
Oh come on, like im going to neglect my 6m old GT.

Its washed (at least) 1x per week, but its my daily and the roads are dirty round these parts. What you see in the pics is grime/accumulation from about 400 miles of driving.

Most of the blackness inside the tips is road grime, although some soot too. I dont go over my exhaust tips with a toothbrush every time I wash the car, and neither should I have to.

My previous DD (a Volvo) managed 100k miles with similar exhaust tips and never showed a bit of corrosion.

So, looks like a deep clean and some metal polish, although im still a bit shocked Roush tips will show signs of corrosion so easily.

I clean mine every time although we don't have road salt to deal with here as it looks like this may be part of your issue. If you clean them thoroughly every wash and polish them once every month you should have better results.

Definitely an anomaly. Dealing with salt covered roads this time of year as well.

I don't polish them often, but I have done it before. Get some of that eagle stuff in the can.
