Pick it up april 1st, dealers are at your disposal (sorry previous messages werent clear) after april 1st you'll pay £880 more and less tax per year.
Before april 1st (march 31st) you'll pay £0 extra and more per year (April 1st pays off if you aim to have the car 3+ years)
SLOwhand 99 i though 17 plates were only availble on cars in April, but just googled, yep it's March :facepalm: i really should know that off my head as I wanted the car to come March 1st for the '16 plate lol.
as for tax, yeah, april 1st.

Hello chaps,

I realise this has been covered but I thought it quicker to ask, I just received this from my dealer -

"Hello Sir,

Up dated Vista print out on your new car ETA to dealer 22-April 2017 at the
moment I would like you to consider this the new taxation class from 1st
April 2017 will increase by £880 per year I would suggest as tax car from
31st March 2017 you would save that money next year we would need the car
payed full by 31st March this is your choice."

I was of the understanding, that after April the initial charge would be 2k then around 150 per year after that?
Which is the way I was planning on going.
He's confused me now!
Looks like he just wants the car paid for!

This letter you have been sent is total crap and designed to make you want to pay for the car a month early

'from 1st April 2017 will increase by £880 per year'

If your car cost less than 41120 on the road (i.e. inc road tax) in April you will pay a ONE OFF extra £880 (1120+880=2000). BUT every year after you will just pay £140 instead of £515

Yes, my thoughts exactly.
I'm now trying to think of a witty retort, so he is aware I know he's a chancing barsteward without me actually saying as much.:D

If you car is not here how can they register it before it lands in the UK? The tax applies when the car is registered with DVLA. Mine should be here now and I am waiting as it will save money if I keep the car 3+ years.... If not it should make it easier to re-sell... However, you pays your money and takes your choice.
they cant
I know mine is a import, but we could only apply for the Tax when the car had cleared the IVA. Car has to be in the UK and road ready

Checking my phrasebook, I think, "'scuse me pal, but yer bum's oot the windy" might do it.

No idea what it means :)

Please note though the saving is about £375/yr in years 2/3/4....

So as the increase is £880 so you would have to keep the car 3 years and 5 months before you save anything

Although me thinks it will help sell the car when you come to change it :thumbsup:

Put simply;

The dealer has said for you to tax it before 31st March because;
1) You would not have to pay anything to the dealer except your initial agreement
2) Your first years tax is included at £1120
3) 2nd year tax on wards will be £515 per year
4) Taking the piss and trying to make out he is doing a favour letting you know BUT actually you will be doing him a favour, hitting his target before the tax year....he gets a bonus, books a holiday and chuckles to himself you fell for the letter :ford:

You wait till 1st April;
1) You would have to pay +£880 on top of what you agreed
2) Your first years tax goes up to £2000, hence the +£880
3) 2nd year tax on wards will be £140 per year

Before 31st + 3yrs tax is £1120 + £515 + £515 = £2150

From 1st April + 3yrs tax is £2000 + £140 + £140 = £2280

so if you plan to keep the car for at least 4yrs and not "give it back" (based on 3yr finance deal) then it works out better to wait till 1st April,

Also, as other have alluded to, a car that costs £140 a year to tax is going to be a lot more saleable than a car that costs £515 a year to tax. And I'd imagine it will be worth at least £880 more come resale time!
