Any old shite.
Hello chaps,

I realise this has been covered but I thought it quicker to ask, I just received this from my dealer -

"Hello Sir,

Up dated Vista print out on your new car ETA to dealer 22-April 2017 at the
moment I would like you to consider this the new taxation class from 1st
April 2017 will increase by £880 per year I would suggest as tax car from
31st March 2017 you would save that money next year we would need the car
payed full by 31st March this is your choice."

I was of the understanding, that after April the initial charge would be 2k then around 150 per year after that?
Which is the way I was planning on going.
He's confused me now!
Looks like he just wants the car paid for!

Yeah that sounds about right, we've been quoting a 1k price rise which is actually to be exact £880 as a dealer confirmed (think it was James Rowe who's on the forums).

if your dealer doesn't want you to pay the increase then you've dodged a bullet, however legally the Pre Purchase contract you've signed, does entitle them to legally claim back the extra fee should they want it, but if they don't - then woooo go you!

The '2k' is The dealers portion of the fee (1200) and then your portion of the fee 800(Est, think it's 1120 and 880), but if the dealer wants to pay the extra 880 - win!

Sounds to me like he's wanting you to tax the car on the 31st of March. Which would put you in the current tax bracket.
I would imagine ford will be trying the hardest to get cars sold and registered at the moment as anyone with a bit of sense today won't register the car until April 1st.
For you to get the new tax bracket your car would be registered on the 1st April and you should have to stump up a further £880

Edit.. ignore everything I said. Your ETA is mid April so you won't have a choice anyway

Sounds like they want this sale in the March figures, not April. Manders post above makes no sense to me whatsoever, but if does to you, all fair and well

I don't think the dealer is offering to pay for anything. He wants your money for a car that hasn't, and won't have been, delivered.

He's wrong about 880 per year. It's an increase of 880 for the first year which applies from April 1st, then reduced year on year after that. (unless it's a GT, auto, vert, in which case it's over the 40k before VED threshold anyway).

Don't pay in full for a car you haven't seen (and you would then have to insure it too, as it's yours).

If he pays on April 1st or after, should pay £880 extra.

If they want the sale before April 1st you'll get a '66 plate not a '17 plate. and obviously tax etc will be higher.

I am waiting for April for the tax change, car is currently at the dealer.

There is an extra one off £880 to pay on registration, but after that your yearly cost will drop from £515 a year to the new rate of £140.

I'd also be wary that the dealer will have your money for 3 weeks, and they won't even have your car on site should anything happen to the dealer, or if there is an issue with your car when it arrives.

So just to confirm with me, my deposit for the finance was originally £12,962.25 -£1000 initial deposit. When I pick the car up, I'll pay the £11,962.25+£880?

Any old shite.
Thanks for the info, it does smell a bit fishy to me.
I don't trust them and I can't see why they would do me any favours.
Think I'll wait.

When did you order? My dealer informed me of the extra £880 back in November (Although the tax man announced it long before then). It's possible (but unlikely) that the price included the increased initial registration fee. Have a look at your invoice for first registration fee of £1120 or £1200.

They might also add the extra to your finance instead if you haven't signed yet. It will be in your order that you will need to pay for differences in tax.

Ritchie I can't see a benefit just dangers on an early registration for yourself unless you wanted higher annual tax/lower initial.

If you car is not here how can they register it before it lands in the UK? The tax applies when the car is registered with DVLA. Mine should be here now and I am waiting as it will save money if I keep the car 3+ years.... If not it should make it easier to re-sell... However, you pays your money and takes your choice.

I don't think they're doing you a favour either, i'm in the Lone Survivor/Slowhand camp. I think they want your order through in March figures. If you originally planned for the extra first year tax followed by lower yearly payments then i'd stick to that rather than forking out nearly £40k on a car you haven't seen.
This is obviously reliant on your configuration coming in under £40k.

Exactly what I'm thinking Steve, I am under the 40k mark.
