Reversed Compass

I just added Navigation to my 2017 Ecoboost mustang premium
I got the Sync 3 APIM module from a 2016 GT Convertible that had been wrecked

I upgraded the Sync 3 to Software Version 3 Build 18025 with a USB drive
Everything works good except for the Compass it is off when I am going north it shows South

I did a system reset and it shows correct but as soon as I drive only a few feet it changes to South and it makes the navigation point the wrong way


Is their a way to calibrate the Compass or do I need to replace the sensor

Just saw in another thread this exact issue. I think Brian-S550 posted it. Basically, he just drove around in circles in a parking lot and it fixed it. I think the compass hardware has to be calibrated and that's one way to do it.

It works
I went to a church just down the road from me ,I did a factory reset on my Sync 3 then drove around 5 times going clockwise and staying under 5 mph and it works now
The compass is correct and the navigation works perfectly

Over in the sync 3 swap thread people have discovered that this is caused because of the transmission type setting in the APIM. If that car had a manual and yours has an auto that can cause it as well. If it happens again you may need to use FORScan to update the as built data.

That was it I changed the transmission to manual with Forscan and it works perfect now

the APIM I got was from a 2016 that was an auto

I have learned a lot from this forum since I bought my 2017 Ecoboost convertable 3 weeks ago I found a used one with only 5,800 miles on it looked like brand new

The compass on my Sync 3 is correct, however, the compass on my instrumental cluster is wrong... Flashes correct and opposite direction every second... How did you check the APIM if it was manual vs auto in Forscan?

You got the software version for cars on the other side of the equator. Yeah drive in circles until you're dizzy. That usually fixes it. Make sure you drive an equal number of turns in both directions too.

Yes. And keep a copy of this thread in your car to show cops if you get stopped for doing donuts in the future. Delete this and your last post though.

Sweet glad you finally got the hardware!!! No fix for me yet, I did circles and does not fix it for me...When I turn the car on after off it is good but after few minutes starts same $hit LOL

I didn't do the base to Sync 3 upgrade but after speaking with Sam he told me to unplug the stock GPSM and that's under the center cover where you added the new GPS antenna. Hope that helps you out.

It fixed it right up for me but Android Auto is still acting up. Not sure if that's a GPS or Android auto issue yet but it's pissing me off.

Android auto where the map spins? Do a hard reset on sync 3 when the vehicle is running. Unplug the black box under the center dash cover in the middle?

I'll try the reset tomorrow. I also need to update to 3.0 so maybe between all that it will be fixed.

Yes, unplug that box that was there already. I just tucked the connection under itself to keep it from rattling around. It instantly stopped my digital dash compass from going crazy.
