I don't think okay to buy was achieved. OK to buy means vehicles are clear to ship nothing has shipped. Stock or retail

23K? What's your source? They better getting shipping then because the factory lot isn't that big.
Check COTUS - VIN numbers are assigned all the way up to *5323000 and a hundred or so beyond that. The last few scheduled are actually EB Premiums ordered by ROUSH. I also found a large 250ish or so block of mostly EB fleet orders headed to Enterprise and Avis.

Your patience is to be commended. But doesn't it even bother you the LEAST little bit that you have not been chosen over someone who has walked into the dealer last week, over 3 months AFTER you, and already has a VIN and build date week? Not even a little bit?

I'm just curious.
Yes, Free, it does bother me a bit, and just like Dark Knight, I keep getting the "Did you get your VIN yet?", from the car nuts at work, but I think I will make it through this. I REALLY wanted this car before the snow flies. The wife and I were going to take a short trip in it thru the wine country or something, but I guess that may have to wait until spring. I query COTUS every day, just like the rest of you, and the disappointment every Thursday evening is crushing, but what am I going to do? Obviously not cancel my order!! LOL. It will all work out, and I'll get that car when I'm supposed to. For the short term, I'll take the F-150 or the Harley to work. They are both fun. ;)

Ordered 5/31. Priority #19. Was called by dealer 3 weeks ago to confirm order because someone higher up called them to check because my car was scheduled to be built later that week. Been in contact with dealer and they don't know anything different at this time. I'm not in a huge hurry, would just like to have it a few days in 2014.

Please understand that you are not Ford's direct customer, the dealership is Ford's direct customer. The dealership then resells the cars to customers.

What this means is that the allocation system is skewed to send more product to the dealers that historically sell them without much (if any) regard to where today's customers are. In the case of Mustangs, much of the early allocation goes to southern states - especially California, Texas, and Florida - so many northern dealers (and customers) have to wait longer and get fewer allocations.

No matter which way allocations were decided, there would be people waiting longer than others. Is Ford's current allocation system ideal? Definitely not! However, it does reward Ford's best (and highest volume) dealerships who have historically moved the most metal. And, as I mentioned above, it is the dealer body that is Ford's direct customer.

Another thought. Ordering a car many months before production starts on a product with lots of pent up demand is a recipe for a long wait. Order a car after production is well under way and after supply has caught up with demand, and cars will come in a timely fashion.

Before dismissing me as just an a$$hat who works for a dealership, keep in mind that I'm a Mustang enthusiast first, dealership employee second. I've owned 8 Mustangs and have personally waited for new models, too. I've been ordering new Fords for 15 years. The '15 Mustang rollout is right on par with every other new model intro - in fact, it's going better than many have.

Have patience. I'm told this car will be well worth the wait!

The thing is I MIGHT cancel if I could find something on a lot somewhere within the next week or two. Mine is going to be a daily driver. If it were just a toy or weekend car it wouldn't bother me as much. Pushing it back farther just puts more wear and tear on my current daily driver and gives me a better chance at having to pump more money into it for repairs and maintenance and the like if anything breaks down which is known to happen on a 10 year old vehicle. I may also put in an order at a competitor and see which one shows up first, the Mustang or the "other" one. Whichever shows up first gets my purchase. I hate playing those games but it may be what I have to do. I'm no Ford loyalist. I used to be a GM loyalist but as my name states I'm a Free Agent now. Ford could have a lifelong buyer with me or I could end up somewhere else. Those little nuances are never taken account for in all this ordering hoopla.

Okay to buy doesn't mean cars are clear to ship. It only means that retail orders can finally be scheduled. Okay to ship only happens after QA is complete. Two different steps in the process, amigo.

Oh my cars been doing that for about a month now. I did hear on site modifications have begun for first run vehicles. Technically a sign of okay to buy just a bit skeptical because no vehicles have shipped.

Wise words but I must disagree partially. When a retail order is given the buyer IS the direct customer by definition. I am BUYING this car. I have ordered it to my personal specifications. For dealer stock orders, sure the dealer is the buyer. They have to find someone to match the car to. But we retail orderers have ordered these exactly how we want them, they are meant for us not Joe Schmoe down the street.

Yes it very well might be worth the wait to most, but not all. I may fall into that "not all" group. It may be a mistake I will concede, but some of us have different wants and needs in an auto purchase, long waiting times are enough to possibly turn me off. I hate saying that but it is the truth. I'm not giving up hope, but that line is within site. :(

Like you, I once was a GM guy. And like you, I was a GTO guy (except mine was a '68 GTO that I owned for a decade waaaaay back when). Lost the faith with GM when I missed the chance to buy a brand new Buick GN in 1987 (and GNX's were out of my budget). Ended up milling around for a year or so and bought a brand new Mustang. 25 years later and I'm still buying new Mustangs every couple of years. The longest wait for a new Mustang that I ever endured? 12 months to get a new 2003 Mach 1. I absolutely had to have one when they were announced in 2002. I was one of the earliest members at the Mach1Registry.com. It sucked waiting while everyone else was getting their Mach 1's, but I finally got mine and I absolutely loved that car. Driving that Mach 1 daily and drag racing it on weekends made me forget all about the long wait. I've bought 3 new Mustangs since that Mach 1 and can't imagine a driveway without a Mustang. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Stay strong!

And now I see where your and my thoughts on this differ. This will not be a "daily driver" for me. It will be a "My Mustang will beat the shit out of your Camaro" kinda car!...LOL. I ordered this car because I own year "ONE", given to me by my grandfather as a 15th birthday present, so I HAD to have "Year 50" to match her. This car will be a pleasure only (and show off car) for me and the wife. I really did'nt want to have to put it in storage for the winter, before I even get to stretch her legs, but so be it.

Your next shot is next Thursday morning, don't bother wasting your time checking until then.

Don't hate...but I JUST GOT A VIN ASSIGNED. No build date yet, but at least a VIN. I'm to assume this means production will be scheduled?
