Is it necessary to replace the heat shields when conducting a resonator delete mod? If so, why? I don't see any heat shields on the R cars, at least not from the underneath carriage pictures I have seen. Thanks.

I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think it is necessary. I did not put it back on when I did my resonator delete and have been running without it for a few years now.

The heat shields are most probably there due to the heat capacity of the resonators... they will hold heat, as where the pipes dissipate the heat much quicker.

30,000 miles in my 2019 with the resonators replaced with straight pipe and no heat shields & no problema.

Thanks for your input. I'm leaning toward keeping my heat shield off unless there is a sound reason otherwise.

I left mine on when I did the resonator delete and no issues no rattles.

Thanks, dpAtlanta for your feedback. I am still debating removing just the resonators and replacing them with a stainless straight pipe and keeping the OEM X pipe in place or removing the OEM X and resonators and replacing both with one of the aftermarket stainless resonators delete X pipes. In either case, I am leaning toward not replacing the factory heat shields unless convinced otherwise.
