I plan to buy a 2016 or 2017 GT Premium M6 Performance Package.

I was surprised that you could order adaptive cruise on a manual trans car. But research showed that cruise was disengaged when the clutch was depressed which essentially means you would have to re-engage cruise any time you up or downshift to match traffic speed.

Until a few years ago, I thought all cruise controls disengaged when you pressed the clutch, just the nature of the beast. But my 2013 Cadillac with manual transmission does NOT disengage the cruise when I shift.

I'm guessing that Ford's lawyers are just a little more gun shy than Cadillac's because its seems pretty trivial technically to just disengage cruise WHILE the clutch is depressed.

Anyone on the forum have any ideas how an owner could accomplish that or the equivalent such as automatically issuing a resume command when the clutch is released IF cruise was on in the last few seconds?

I am impressed with some of the things members have done like retrofitting My Touch to non-premiums and "fixing" adaptive cruise strikes me as much simpler although also less a demand for since a lot more people order non-Premiums than order adaptive cruise AND manual trans.

It might be moot if Ford either fixes this OR offers an automatic with the Performance package in 2017. They can do it because they did with the 50th anniversary. I won't drive a slushbox BUT someone posted in another forum that the Mustang auto operates locked up in every gear but first when in manual shift mode. If true, I could live with an automatic. Would prefer not to wait for 2017 MY and then find no change.

Hoosier,

I'll address the first paragraph only, and it may be a little off-topic, but I think it's relevant info.

I have a 2015 GT Premium M6 PP w/ Adaptive Cruise Control. My driving type is probably 50/50 street/highway, and my driving style is average/occasionally spirited. I had the same concerns as you with getting the MT and ACC. "Why would someone want the cruise control to automatically slow down or speed up the vehicle if I have to shift, and if shifting cancels the cruise control, what's the point"?

After approximately 5,000 miles, I'm still thrilled I got the ACC. Here's why:
With 435HP, 400TQ and 3.73 gears in the Torsen (PP), the GT PP has PLENTY of smack left at 60 and 70MPH to change lanes and accelerate. Not Atlas-V rocket-type acceleration, but if you aren't driving F1-style on a crowded highway (which you shouldn't be - you have the cruise control on in the first place), it's VERY easy to just tap the blinker down, check your blind spot, and slide over. The car will accelerate from 55-60 to [cruise set point] with very little hesitation. Obviously, if you're trying to jump out into a gap that's 6 inches longer than the car, then ACC is a bad idea.

Now, if you have the cruise set at 75-80 and you're running around in 4th or 5th in traffic at 45 MPH and you slide out, then clearly you're going to have to shift anyway. An ACC resume will be required as expected.

The only complaint I have about ACC is that in certain circumstances, it slows the car so gently that it takes me a few seconds to realize what has happened. Then you look down and go "...why the (*&^% am I going so slow"??? Then you realize that it slowed you down and ...well ...if you aren't gonna drop it down a couple of gears and get some - then what's the point? LOL

Also, 2017/2018 MY could see a significant change in the automatic transmission. So stay tuned for that.

I'm sure there will be some different opinions here. But that's mine.

Thanks. I'll probably order it.

I'm ordering regardless but did anyone actually see a manual trans 2016 GT with adaptive cruise on a dealer lot? I wouldn't mind test driving one.

Well, I retail ordered mine when there weren't many to be had on dealer lots. And to be honest, I'm sorry to say I haven't spent much time on any lots since I got my car. But yeah, I see your point. Probably not many dealer stock cars ordered with ACC.
