I've stuck it here for the most views as I want to get this done today.

I have an aluminium one-piece reverse lockout to install but first I have to remove the chrome/plastic bezel to get at the rest of it.

CJ Pony's video just shows the guy giving it a tug but apart from the front, their is nowhere to get a grip.

He warns that it is easy to break so I want to take it easy.

Anyone else done it?

Cheers.

Best way I have found is the way MGW does it in their install video and pull the console and push the retaining clips from underneath.

I'll have a look at that, cheers. Tried again just now and the bugger snapped back and trapped my fingers.

Hurts to type now :D

Have to be very firm yet gentle. I didn't break mine but you have to pull pretty hard

I was working on my GF's Focus St and removed her shift boot. I have never had a more difficult time removing a panel held on by clips. Ford has increased the strength in how interior parts are held in, maybe to reduce rattling later in life.

One thing I would suggest is don't pull too hard if the plastic is cold (Winter time), higher risk of breaking something.

pull the console top. I broke mine by yanking it straight up and had to get a new one. Only $60 to replace it, but it still sucks.

Just seen the video where they remove the whole centre console to get at it. I hate taking things off that are held on by clips and catches. Never seems to go back correctly so I don't think I'll bother as the car is only 2 weeks old.

I've replaced the shifter with the white cue ball one and happy with that. If the two piece reverse lock out ever breaks I'll have the all metal replacement ready to use. Thanks folks.

It's really not that bad pulling the console. Just watch the video carefully. Everything lines up easily. I was nervous doing it.

I agree. It is actually pretty easy. Watch that part of the video several times then go do it. I cringed as I took mine apart the sound it makes as the clips break free sound like you are breaking everything. Mine took quite a bit of force on the shift boot clips from underneath to get the boot to pop free.

Yep, pull the console or you're at a 50/50 chance of breaking the boot retainer clips.

+1 on removing the console, watch MGW video, and follow exactly. It's easy if you go step by step and don't pull anything in a direction it doesn't want to go. Then the shifter boot bezel is easy to pop out from underside by pushing directly on clips

Another saying pull the console.
I just did an MGW swap and it really isn't hard at all. Use a couple interior trim tools so you don't gouge that center console storage area and just pop the thing up.
There's a connector (or two if you have a premium) around the cup holders that you need to disconnect, then reach under the outside part of the shifter bezel and push them up with your thumb one by one. It'll pop right out. You can now reattach your console(reconnect the wires) and go about dealing with your shifter bezel/boot with whatever you intend to do
