Red Calipers

When doing mods like this, I always look at what the factory did at one time or another. (I've built my '66 GT Fastback the same way, although updated with modern technology.) Ford offered calipers in the past either in black or red. I personally will stick to those options. My old '95 GT was Laser Red. Kind of a pale comparison to Ruby Red. As it aged, it turned into a strawberry "pinkish" red. But I had a set of the Cobra anniv. calipers that were red on it and it looked damned good.

Have you thought about a silver or white with the black wheels? My 2011 was red with red caliper covers and grey wheels, that combo went together well.
I ordered a Magnetic with redline interior so I'm painting my calipers red to extend the theme.

Yea, the silver was kind of where I was headed with the gray combination. Almost like having a ruby red body, black wheels, and then taking the magnetic body color, but putting it on the caliper.

Good point above about watching what the factory did. I was thinking that Ruby Red body with Ruby Red calipers was too much and Ruby Red body with Race Red calipers would clash, but might be worth another look.

It depends on the colour of your car. I think red looks good on Oxford. Yellow on red is a not bad contrast.

I think it's called G2, not G6. The G2 kits run about $40 from Amazon. It is a two-part epoxy system that you mix and then brush on.

A step down from that is the Dupli-Color kits which are about $25. These are not a two-part system, so they are less durable. Also brush on.

Both of the above can be done with the calipers still on the vehicle, it will just require some extra time and patience to properly prep and mask other areas off.

Professional powder coating is the most durable you can do. My local shop quoted me $35 per caliper for the front, and $30 per caliper for the rear. So $130 total. I would imagine this is about competitive and average. On top of the extra expense is the requirement that you'll have to take your calipers off the car so the shop can paint them. This means putting your car on jack stands for however long it takes. My shop told me they are a 3 business day turnaround right now...so you'd possibly need another vehicle for a few days depending on your shop's turnaround.

If you get them powder coated, not only will you have to take them off the car, you'll also have to completely disassemble the calipers as they won't be able to coat them otherwise.

I see a lot of pics of the big calipers up front, but not many of the rears. Are you not putting the decals on the rears? If not, how come? Space? Because they are labeled Ford and not Brembo like the fronts? Not the style to have all 4 wheels with decal? Just curious.

The rear calipers are single piston calipers. they aren't as exciting looking as the front, which are either 4 or 6 piston calipers depending on your car's package.

What caliper color for DIB?

Planning on doing mine red to contrast against my DIB. But I'm going to get custom made decals with "BIMBO" instead.

I was wondering what would be a good color for my DIB convertible W/18" foundry wheels. What colors of calipers have people seen on DIB that looked good?

I actually painted them on the car. It took a few days to do because of all the masking required but after doing all 4 brakes I only missed a tiny spot on my hub and got a little overspray on it. Hoping to take a wire brush to it tomorrow to fix. I realised Probably easier to take the brakes off after I got about halfway through the project :doh:

With the wheels on? just curious since a lot people are saying that it is possible!

I don't know what a dark carbon color is. Any examples? I like your thinking, though as I had a thought that, for me, a color would kind of clash. But the stock calipers are already a silver. So a darker metalic grey or silver might look good, blend in, look nice if you eye goes to them (but don't 'pop' your eyes there). I'd love to see what you mean by a dark carbon color. It sounds good.
