Really securing your rear license plate

Actually, for me it's the azz hats that crowd my bumper trying to take a picture of the plate. That truly is a flash point for me. Damn near at the point of going back to my disabled vet plate and calling it a day.

After much contemplating I decided to go this route. I was able to pick 4 of these up at Home Depot today. I put the plate back on the car to line up the bottom holes. Used a punch to mark the center and then took the plate back off.

Then came the fun part - taking a drill to the bumper… Drilled a small pilot hole and then got out the 1/2” bit. Got the first one done and held the plate back up and everything lined right up. Did the other side and then the top ones.

Right now it’s just on with machine screws. As the removal tools for the different security screws are pretty readily available I might just use red Loctite and super glue the screw heads so you can’t get a screw driver in and then put a cover over the screws. The plate isn’t coming off until I sell the car. I could just use an ez-out then to remove them. Haven’t decided for sure but may ask some of the tradesmen at work tomorrow for other ideas.

Agree. Loctite Red is not a very good idea as the screws are threading into plastic, not metal. And, the screws have a coarse thread vs machine as one would find on a stud.

The expansion nuts I used are rubber on the outside with a brass thread for the machine screws to go into.

I see what you did. You used what we call "Well Nuts." Makes sense now. Still believing Loctite Blue or Green would be a better choice. JMHO
