I haven't owned a stick shift in 9 years. I was curious about a slight rattle/grinding noise I hear some times when shifting up fro 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd sometimes. Car is driving fine though. Is this something I should be concerned about or is it normal? My last stick shift car was a 4 cyl eclipse gsx and far as I can recall, there was no such noise shifting between gears. I am changing oil to inspect for any metal shavings this weekends just to be on the safe side. I'm at 5100 miles.

It can be a bit "clunky" at times (once in a while), but I cannot say I have noticed rattle/grinding noise. I have just shy of 3,100 miles on mine. Overall it's pretty smooth...

Hi Brett - It’s likely normal and of no concern. Your description somewhat matches what I hear and experience. Shifts generally get smoother as you shift through to the higher gears which is the norm. You’re probably too young to have experienced a Muncie “Rock Crusher” 4-speed. They sounded like crap but were next to indestructible. This transmission is like a knife cutting through soft butter in comparison, but it will still have some feel and noise. If your not hearing clunks or loud bearing type noises, relax and ignore it - turn up the volume on that nice B&O stereo... Bruce

I get that sound when I have the clutch halfway down longer than I should. Releasing a bit quicker should keep that from happening. In general, I find shifting the Bullitt a much different experience than my last manual, a 99 Miata. At 600 miles I'm still learning, especially at revs beyond 5000, which is an entirely new experience for me, and I'm trying to avoid a lurch from 1-2 at high speed.
