Much like Rob, I tried everything before ultimately going to a surge tank. My setup is a radium fuel hat w/ 274 (high pressure 465) ACC-triggered sending unit, and dual 274s (one ACC-triggered, one boost triggered > 3psi) in the surge tank. Before this, I would fuel starve @ 1/2 tank. I’ve taken it down to 1/8 tank without issue on both CW and CCW config since installing, and expect I could go all the way to E if I wanted to.
Have you experienced any fuel heating issues due to "excess" fuel repeatedly circulating from the surge tank through its pump to the regulator and back to the surge tank?

If so, plumbing the line from the regulator back to the main tank instead of to the surge tank ought to help.


I found I had to do that for an aftermarket EFI system that had the regulator mounted at the fuel rails.

What are you using for the tank module feeding the surge tank? Modified stock?

I know this is old thread, but want to comment on fuel heating.
If your 3 pumps in the surge tank are running at full speed all the time then you are definitely heating your fuel. And your setup is best for drag racing and not good for daily or road course.

Better way is one pump runs off the OEM high / low speed, one is triggered at say 1 psi boost and 3rd is triggered at say 15 psi.

For return from regulator, I would always return to surge tank, because don’t forget the goal is to keep the pumps in the surge tank covered with plenty fuel. Also the hot fuel in the surge tank is being diluted by the fuel from the main tank, so you aren’t really collecting over heated fuel in the surge tank

@Plimmer : Would like to get your thoughts on if you (or anyone) think I should plumb in a fuel cooler.

My setup: Two OEM fuel baskets (pump&filter) in each side of tank feeding into 3.5L DeatschWerks surge tank to external pump that feeds the engine. Regulator at eng returns fuel to surge tank, and then will overflow from surge tank to main tank.

Usage: Track only car w/stock Gen 2 coyote upgraded cooling (radiator, body venting), trans cooler and diff cooler. Jet Hot coated headers and heat wrapped exhaust pipes from before diff all the way to the mufflers (have to...98dB with, 106dB without). Sessions from 12min to 45min so far...but I'd like to enter an endurance race one day (2hr stints, 6hrs total).

Other than figuring out how to measure fuel temp, how can I tell if fuel heating is a problem? My three pumps do run all the time. Oops, forgot, I'm on a FP control pack, so no fuel pump module. Do you think fuel heating would be a problem at 1.5-2hrs ?? Thanks for any input you can share

Very interested in getting some opinions. I’ve recently installed an aces fuel surge tank and can’t get the damn thing to work properly. The difference with the aces system is it has a built in regulator and I’m not sure if that’s a problem. Anyhow, I’ve tried a hp340 pump from in tank feeding the surge to a matched pump. The surge tank also has a return back to the main tank. Anyhow, that setup ran for about 20 minutes on the highway and then the surge pump started overheating so my assumption was the tank pump was pushing too much pressure and overheating the fuel. I then tried a lp lift pump dwmicro to eliminate the issue. That pump couldn’t keep up with the volume needed and the surge pump would then drop pressure and starve the motor. Anyhow, looking for advice on the right pump to feed the surge pump enough volume without too much pressure. It’s an 05 s197 with a Coyote swap. Getting major hesitation issues on track during hard left hand turns. Joined because I came across this thread and you guys sound like you know what you’re talking about.

In looking it up...hp340 looks to be an Aeromotive unit. I'd think with 340 litres/min either pump would almost feed the entire system on it on! Really not making sense why it's not working....
