Has anyone gone to the Ford Racing School or anything equivalent? Would you recommend it?

Corvette offers a driving school for new owners at a half off discount. I couldn't find any similar offers from Ford. Just looking to learn more advanced driving techniques and test the limits in a safer environment. Thanks for any input.

Miller Motorsports Park runs Fords (outside of Salt Lake City UT). Ford ran the Boss 302 school program through them.

I care about infotainment
I was doing some research into this a few months ago and I think Ford does do a drive wing school - and if memory serves it's in Utah and costs like $3000 for a weekend or something like that.

Would make a nice road trip to go and do that in a few years :)

Anyone near VIR look into BMWCCA or PCA events for the best instructors for new students. For experienced track drivers hit up Rezoom's intermediate solo group. You will learn a lot.

I did boss track attack in Utah. Treated us like celebrities during the 2 days. If I would have the money now I would do the racing school again. Very expensive though.

I have done several of the Evolution driving schools, plus NASA HPDE is a great way to get seat time on a track.

Skip Barber has the mustang now as one of their performance cars. It's pretty cheap for a "half day" event.

I went through HPDE at Miller Motorsport a couple years ago, it was a great day and was only like $350, but I used my own Mustang, went through a tank and a half of gas. took weeks to get the smile off my face.... If you plan on using your own car, change the brake pads to something other then the factory stuff, (Like EBC Yellow Stuff)

If you are fast enough, serious brake pads will be needed. If not, or if you have some kind of performance pack (until you get faster than those pads/brake setup), then move up. Other than that, go and have fun, but especially, learn!

I took the Ron Fellows three day class last summer. It was a great experience. They use the C7 Z51 Vette, which was one of the cars I was interested in getting (the other is the GT350) so it was just about the best test drive you could ever get.

They have very nice facilities, a great staff of instructors, and the class is very good.

Day 1 is mostly exercises related to braking, skid pads, vision, and heel/toe shifting.

Day 2 has some more heel/toe, but spends most of the day doing lead/follow laps with the instructors. They drive the Camaro 1LE, and as much as thePill likes to say how crappy those cars are, they are actually very fast. I have quite a bit of track experience, and was one of the faster people in my group, yet the instructors in the Camaros were able to drive ahead of me, and critique my technique while looking in their rear-view mirror and using one hand to operate the radio. I'm have enough experience to know that I'm not that talented a driver, but this was pretty humbling none-the-less.

Day 3 was basically open lapping with passing on the longer back straight.

Overall I really loved the experience. I hope to get a GT350 and plan to take it there for a private lesson eventually.

I love track days, but they put quite a bit of wear and tear on the car, and it might be good to do some AutoX first before taking the plunge. Helps you learn car control and the limits of your vehicle in a safer environment (for both the hardware and people).

One thing to add... unless you have a very relaxed insurance company, I would not open track any car that you cannot afford to push off a cliff. Even during the controlled newbie sessions of my first HPDE we had one Camaro tuck himself into a tire wall and a convertible 6 series do a long backward excursion off into a field.

Felt bad for the Camaro and his crushed quarter panel. Laughed at the BMW filling his car up with wet grass shavings because the guy was simply an ass, parking in the way of our trailer, never pointing anyone by even though he was a piss poor driver, etc.
