You have a 2017, so DONT gut it. The new style factory PCV work actually pretty well. My 2016 had the old style one and my intake and IC piping would always have oil in it even with my mishimoto catch can. Ford updated it when I took it in for warranty and now both stay clean as a whistle.

That's contrary to what's been said. What you're calling the new style factory PCV wasn't a PCV change at all, Ford enhanced the oil separator, the PCV is simply a check valve and that is exactly the same. They enhanced the oil separator so it more effectively collected the oil from the vapors as it passed through and allowed it to drain back before exiting the crankcase. I know you were on the forums then, maybe you remember someone cut open the separator to show the difference.

If the smoking is at idle, I wonder if it's because the separator is inefficient and too much oil is in the vapor being passed through to the intake and getting burned or if it's too much crankcase pressure damaging seals and oil is being forced out and burned somewhere else? Smoke at idle makes sense because that's when the most vacuum is present (about 17 - 22 inches of mercury depending on elevation).

Wait I've seen bits about smoking at idle. Is this only a start up issue? As that is when mine seems to have the most white exhaust and after I think I am usually good.

Also is this a warranty-able issue and should i bother spending another several days having warranty work done?

PS I have a custom cat back but that shouldn't effect much I believe from what I've read.

A bit of white smoke on startup is normal, condensation and what not burning off. When your turbo smokes it will have a bluish tinge and happens during time of idle. Sometimes it take 1+ minute of idle time, if really bad 15 seconds of idle time. Blue smoke will go away once you start driving, if these happen you can take it in for warranty providing you haven't done anything to void it, if it is void then look into gutting your pcv but only if you have the UPR DVCC.

The catback won't impact the flow difference enough to cause any issues, only the DP. Whether or not it would be an issue for warranty work is a completely different story. That depends on which way the wind is blowing at the particular deal you go to. Taking it in and going through that is up to you and how much it concerns you. Personally, I would.

The original problem with smoking at idle that was covered by the TSB and replacing the oil separator and even some ECU modification was a smoke after a long idle, ~10 minutes. That would imply the constant vacuum for a long period of time was pulling the oil through and causing the smoke vs smoke right at startup sounds more like oil seeped after shutdown and then burned on startup until it burnt out which sounds more like a seal.

Hmmm yea my car almost always has what I would consider smoke on start up. It isn't like a tirefire smoke just a more dense exhaust fine is how i would describe it. The blue thing scares me a bit because last time I was visiting my parents I when I was leaving I revved the car up for them while I was sitting in the driveway and they say uh oh the smoke is blue. I got right out of the car to look and only saw the normal white exhaust.
