Okay, at 16 I had a good job and worked 20-30 hours and could barely save enough to buy a crappy 15 year old car as I guess my 'rents did not pay for everything. At 19 I had an even better job and worked 30+ hours while in college before I went broke paying for that and had to join the Army. At no time could I pay for a $40k sports car, its insurance, and had money for rent and food. With todays economy, I hope you young guys who are sticking together know just how lucky you have it. Even now with a good career and college almost paid for 15 years later, an ex wife, two kids and a mortgage the 2015 Mustang is almost still just a dream. I am going to do everything I can to make it work but its still going to be a $500+ car payment. Wow.
I have been working 40+ hours since I have been 16 whenever I was off of school, I am lucky enough to have parents who are paying my tuition, they want me to be debt free coming out of college. Other than that, I am paying the difference in the insurance cost of the Mustang (whatever the mustang insurance will be minus the cost of my current car's insurance), and I will be paying the full cost of the car (currently have about $20,000 I can put down). Other than that I do pay for food, gas, etc anything else that isn't tuition or most of the insurance at this point, i'd say I am being more responsible than most my age and taking advantage of the opportunities that i've been blessed to have.

For us, we currently have no bills to pay, no house payments, no health insurance bills (Most people are on their parents plan until you are 25), so I figure as a young one who knows how to manage money, this would be the perfect time to get a car I plan on keeping for a lifetime paid off, before I have other bills that make it impossible to get.

Thats awesome! Motivation, responsibility, and being thankful/thoughtful of opportunity is a wonderful thing!
