I purchased a new 2017 GT with the California package last week and I'm hearing an odd noise. After the car sits overnight it makes a sound like a playing card hitting bike tire spokes (lasts about 10 minutes). It speeds up and slows down with the drive train but doesn't do it when the car is in park. For the first couple of days it only did it in the morning but Tuesday night on my way home from work it did it for the last two miles and was fairly loud. It sounds like it's coming from the right side of the car around the front of the transmission or fire wall.

I dropped the car off at the dealer yesterday so they could do a couple other things to it but they said they didn't hear the noise this morning. I gave the service adjuster a video/sound clip of the noise but the tech said he couldn't hear it in the car today. The only thing I did different before dropping it off at the dealer was fill the car with 93 octane because I had an 1/8th tank left from the dealers 87 octane they put it at delivery.

I wouldn't think the change in octane could be doing but I guess you never know. It also does it with or without the A/C on and with or with the recirculation button on. I've done a ton of research and can't find anything to compare it to.

I tried downloading the audio clip but it showed invalid file. Anyway, any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to the dealer first thing in the morning to meet the technician.

Sticker on the drive shaft? Weird I know but I read on another thread on the GT350 fourm they had a factory sticker on the drive shaft that when going, the sticker on the drive shaft spins and hits on the body of the car. Then at higher speeds it spins faster causing the sticker to push down not hitting the car. Just a guess.

The noise only happens in gear and when the car is moving (it speeds up and slows down with the car speed). I'll be at the dealer this morning at 8am to start it up and take a ride with the tech so hopefully they can figure it out. I wouldn't have been too concerned if it only happened first thing in the morning but when it happened after the car was running for about 45 minutes and it was louder it started worrying me a little more.

I was thinking about putting magnaflow exhaust on it this weekend but I don't want to alter anything until this is 100% resolved. I'd like nothing more than to get there this morning and not hear the sound, I'd rather look like an idiot and have it fixed than have an actual problem. Anyway, other than that I really love the car. The picture doesn't do justice to the car.

Good luck at the dealer tracking down the noise... keep us posted.

Regarding Magnaflow exhaust...IMHO...there are better choices.
Consider the Borla or Corsa systems as they will bring out the glorious tone of the 5.0 Coyote without the drone.

Nice GT/CS!

Are you sure there isn't something stuck in your tire tread?

If you put it in neutral while rolling and rev it up does it increase the speed of the noise or stay the same?

It's probably a bad bearing in the drive shaft had the same noise in my truck and the center bearing was bad. Weird because yours is so new but sounds like the same issue. Mine would get louder and as I sped up and eventually would kind of go away at certain speeds but you could here it with the windows down.

Which would be constant while the car is running...I swear you don't think too much before you post.

Not really. Idle does not create much air compare to the engine underload.

Ok went to the dealer first thing and took the "cold" car for a ride with the tech. As planned it didn't make the sound. The car was at the dealer for an alignment and the right exhaust tip was about 1/2" lower than the left so they were going to fix that also. When I was talking with the tech he mentioned that the exhaust was a pain and he had to loosen it and retighten everything to get it aligned. He also said he tapped all over under the car and found a heat shield that would rattle a little bit so he fixed that too. Whatever he touched it made the noise go away. The tech looked a little older than me (I'm 54) and seemed to really be into Mustangs so I felt pretty comfortable about his work.

After that I decided to swing by the muffler shop to have some Magnaflows installed. I know they're not everyone's sound but for me I wanted a really deep tone without anything raspy or poppy. In my opinion the car sounds killer now. I appreciate everyones feedback and suggestions on the problem.

That driveshaft tag might have finally wore down. Nice gt/cs!

Definitely a sticker on one of the shocks rubbing against the inside of your wheel. I had the exact same issue occur when I first got my car and after inspection I found that one of the barcode stickers from Ford was hanging off the front left shock and rubbing against the inside part of the wheel making that sound.
