So I know that the car keeps power to the 12V power outlet (cigarette lighter) even after the car is off for a certain amount of time (I believe a little over an hour). My question is for people who use a radar detector or a dashcam that uses that 12V outlet and if you guys leave it plugged in when turning the car off or not? I have had a radar detector that was using the outlet until just recently when I hardwired it to the rear view mirror and I always used to just unplug it when I got home. Now, I am getting a dual 4K dashcam soon that will be using that outlet and I was wondering if I could keep it plugged in 24/7 or if I should unplug it when the car is off like I used to do with my radar detector. Will it hurt the battery at all if I decide to keep it plugged in all the time or no? I don't wanna end up with a dead battery when I go to start the car randomly one day.

I have a dash cam and radar detector plugged in 24/7, never had an issue. They've been plugged in for months now. Like you mentioned, after a certain amount of time, power is cut, so there's really nothing to worry about.

I've had my car since 2015, and all that time I've left my dash cam constantly plugged in. Never had a problem.

Cool thanks for the answers guys. Guess I was being paranoid then. I won’t worry about it anymore.

I recently got a new dashcam for xmas, the TAVA dual 4k, and it comes with a battery inside so that when the 12v is cut off, it can continue to monitor while parked. Maybe look into one of those.
