Hello! Long time forum lurker. Recently asked this same question on the Mustang Subreddit, but figured I might obtain additional insights here.
I am ready to make the jump and place a customer order after many years of waiting. But here's the caveat, I would like to go with a S550 model (V8). I do not like the renders I have seen of the S650, and it also makes me nervous to get a 1st gen car.
Am I out of luck for a S550 custom order at this time (Aug/September 2022) or in 2023? So far, a few posts have indicated 2023s will indeed exist and be S550 models per this post (colours) and this post (2023 MY Information). If that is the case, I would guess September's event is a sneak peek of the 2024 S650, with orders starting next Fall. It would give enough time for the 2023 S550s to go to market.
However, I have also heard 2023s might not exist at all, with Ford going straight from 2022 to the 2024 S650 models. I was surprised to see them move their debut/announcement event from April 2023 to September 2022. Also, C&D's website lists 2022 and then 2024 as models for the Mustang. That doesn't necessarily mean anything but caught my attention.
I know all of this is speculation until the September event, but I sure hope we see S550s in 2023! What does everyone else think?
P.S. I was of the mindset electrification would come at a later time (think 2035-2050). Sad to see V8 Mustangs gone-- Almost feels like a race against time! (at least, for new)
