I was looking at calimer transmissions earlier and noticed a shift weight delete option. This got me looking up pics to see exactly what it is and after finding a few I'm pretty sure this weight isn't on my tranny. Back in March while I was under my car I noticed a rod sticking out of the passanger side if the transmission the looked like something was missing but couldn't for the life of me figure out what should be there. After seeing a few pics online I'm almost positive it's the shift mast and the weight is missing.

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the weight? Bad to leave it off? I'll be changing my oil later today or tomorrow morning so while I'm under there I'll take a look to confirm and get a picture.

As far as I can tell the weight does two things: slows the shifts down to give the synchros more time to work; improves positive engagement as the weights hit their stops. Ford is not likely to spend time and $$ putting on parts that are not needed, probably bad to leave it off for 99% of us.

Yeah I agree ford had to put it in for a reason. I'm just not sure if it's only a nvh thing or serves a bigger purpose. Since calimer has a delete option on their builds it makes me lean towards nvh. Plus I have no idea how/ where to find a replacement?

If Calimer has a delete option maybe he has some weights sitting around. Or since your Mustang is still under warranty go back to the dealer and say "hey, this part must have been loose and fell off...".

I'll reach out to calimer and see. Warranty is a no go. The dealer would probably laugh if I brought my twin turbo mustang in and asked for anything!
