Color rarity or lack there of, is not a guarantee that a collectible car will appreciate in value. What drives values up is demand.

For example, there were more Mystichrome Cobras produced than any other 03/04 Cobra, yet they command the most amount of money compared to the much rarer Zinc Yellow.

Same goes for the Ford GT heritage editon, they aren’t rare, but clearply are the most desirable and bring the most money vs a comparable 04-06 GT.

Here is my thoughts on the HEPR. I do think originally that they made too many of them. I think 50 to 100 cars would have been better, or maybe only the R got the HEP package. It would have been a nice to have all blue accents in the interior vs red, and for them to have their own unique chassis number. Maybe LRH001. Or something like that. Still, they are really cool and I think they did a good job overall with the HEPR package as a send off for these special cars.

Despite the numbers, they are still highly in demand right now because...
1. It's the final model year of the R, which is the best version of the car. 2020's already come at a premium on their own.
2. The HEPs are the final edition of the GT350Rs. That means a lot.
3. It's the only special package that was offered on the R.
4. It pays tribute to the original GT350 which creates a lot of appeal.

You can't really compare the HEPR's to regular color specs. because it's not just a color spec, it's a special package that was only available for a limited time for 2020 cars.


Here are the different groups of R's as I see it. Starting with most valuable to least, currently.

1. 2015 R's - First model year. 37 made. Had to be someone to get one. (One has not sold for a while, so I'm still keeping them at the top for now as I think one would easily go for 200k in this market)

2. HEPR - 280 made. A special package and final edition of the R.

3. 2020 - Final model year. GEN II engine. Updated steering from GT500.

4. 2019 - GEN II engine.

5. Base R's - 135 made. Stripped down cars with no radio or AC. The most pure R's. (These are undervalued right now in my opinion. I think in the future they will be towards the top)

All of these are going to command a premium over a regular spec 2016 to 2018 R. Now with the LFG R selling for 130k, we could start to see a new group emerging if it happens again, which is one year color R's like the LFG and Grabber Blue. Time will tell.

Thank you for setting me straight brother. I got a little happy with my numbers.

Again, it appears the HEPRs are in a consistent ballpark north of non-HEPR cars.

In no way am I shaming any 350… Jeff just hates that paint and stickers demand a premium. I didn’t set those valuations… the market did.

Cant say its hate. But I will say I dont get it. I was offered a HEP R but, as much as I am a traditionalist, I dont care for white. To each his own

There were many other colors that higher production than mystichrome - and the ones that didn't, were very close. There are only a couple low production colors.

That’s right Jeff. I’ve owned 12 of these but it’s been a while. My point still rings true. Mystichrome, sonic blue are not rare but command a premium, the other “rare” colors with exception of Comp Orange, do not. Still all about demand.

Mystichrome - was always going to be popular. It was such a crazy move at the time. White is very popular now as well but they made about the same (1300ish?) of those as most of the others. Since we are talking 03-04 Cobra - I have a love hate with them because IMO they aren't that fun to drive stock but that's where the value is, stock examples....I could never own a stock one because I'd be tearing into it immediately

I have owned a couple MC cars, interior looks like unicorn piss to me lol. They are the absolute WORST cars to drive stock. I have owned many low mile sonic blue coupes and a 3000 competition orange coupe but sold them because of how boring they were. My favorite was my old 2.2KB Sonic with 9000 miles

Let's not forget the mystic cobra either. They made 2000 of those in 96 and they are still probably the most sought out 96-98 Cobra.

So a buddy of mine works at a dealership that just took in a trade….’79 Rolls Royce with only 8300 miles on it. The only thing they can find wrong with it is a slight brake booster leak and needs new paint.
The thing rides like a dream. Tempted but I don’t have a place for it.
Dealership doesn’t know if they’ll keep it or not.

I just paid around 80k for a 2019 car with 10k miles, there aren't many +19 cars out there so pricing all over the place.

Just got word from Audi dealer that they are also stopping production due to wiring harnesses being produced in Ukraine similar to Porsche. Sounds like market is going to get a lot worse unfortunately... R8 order getting pushed to 23 production most likely, wouldn't be surprised if they slap a $20k price increase on it also.
